I visit the Star Inn frequently. It is a wonderful country pub in the heart of rural hampshire. It is a true village pub. The landlady (Lesley), works hard to make the pub the centre of the community and, as well as being the village pub, also hosts a book club, Pilates classes, a regular Saturday morning mobile dog grooming... This was possibly the worst bedroom I have ever stayed in. At £80 it was a scandel. It is advertised as a cottage in the grounds but in reality it is a dark, dingy, cold and dirty room with a grotty bathroom. Our room (with the very uncomfortable sleigh bed) was decorated with dark red wall paper remonisceint of the... More

I just love The Star. We have been a number of times now and there is always a warm welcome. Lesley works so hard to make the place so much more than just a country inn. There is a programme of varying events from music and skittles (the inn has its own skittle alley) to quizzes, book club, talks and... More

This pub-inn is the best blend of Olde England charm and the British sense of fun. Next to the quintessential cricket ground, frequented by bell-ringers, light-pollution free skies let you see the stars, mobile phones cannot intrude into this little oasis of peace, almost zero traffic noise at night just the odd sheep bleeting in the distance. Retire to a... More

Lovely setting (overlooking a beautiful cricket field)in a very quiet rural area. A very inventive menu for a country pub, with none of the customary "gastro pub" pretentiousness. The rooms are simply furnished but comfortable with free Wifi. Some visitors may find the location too remote, because of the maze of country lanes which need to be navigated to get... More

We arrived late to a warm welcome and a log fire in the bar. Lovely quiet area. The dinner was fantastic with a lovely menu and beautifully cooked food which made up for the disappointing accommodation. Lovely full English breakfast before we left. More

The welcome we received could not have been better and the evening meal was superb and excellent value for money. This does make me wonder whether the previous two reports were referring to the same Inn??? The location was perfect for us as we were looking to escape from busy lives and here you could not fail to relax and... More

We did not stay at the Inn, but visited the pub for lunch. We arrived 2 minutes after 2.00 and were told that lunch was served until 2.00 only. It was obvious that the owners were not serving, or if they were it makes it even worse! So, we could have a sandwich. I chose the morrocan sausages, which turner... More

We chose the Star Inn for an overnight stay on our way home from holiday, attracted by its reputation for good food and quiet location. We arrived quite late on a chilly late September evening, but had a warm welcome in every sense - cosy welcoming bar with open fire, pleasant landlady and very friendly, bubbly waitress/chamber maid. Unfortunately, our... More

We stayed at The Star for my parent's ruby wedding anniversary and had a lovely time. We were attracted by the rave reviews of Justin the chef's cooking and most certainly were not disappointed. He is the owner's son and cooks outstanding food with fresh local ingredients. The pub and accommodation was somewhat scruffy round the edges but certainly warm... More
