This hotel is about a 15/20min walk from the centre of town so not convenient. But the rooms were nice and the front desk staff were nice. The open air restaurant has good food and friendly service and even a trail you can hike to watch the sunset. The hotel does offer a free car service into town and to/from the airport but when we booked the car to take us to town to go on a liveaboard dive boat, the driver had taken off with other people, even though we booked the car a day in advance. That was very inconvenient and annoying. When the driver did come back and take us to town, he went to the wrong dive shop even though he was repeatedly told the name of the place. He was not apologetic and instead arrogant about it. I would not stay at this hotel again due to the location and unreliable car service.

As others have said not "centro" at all. Greeted very warmly by staff on arrival and they couldn't have been more helpful. Room on first floor was small but relatively modern, despite the aircon some mosquitoes found their way into the room, there seem to be a lot about. There was a convention of village headmen taking place in the hotel, so it was full and they declined to serve us food as they were too busy. Nevertheless they gave us the free shuttle into town where there are plenty of reataurants to choose from. They also sent the shuttle to pick us up, impressive but needed as it is too far to walk at night. When we got back the bar had closed but the delightful ladies on reception came up trumps again and found the key to the beer fridge so everyone was happy.
Crowded at breakfast with the headmen who were making full use of the buffet, maybe thay hadn't experienced one before, it was OK but nothing special.
Again the friendly staff all came out to wave us off.

Great staff al so nice and friendly. Always helps you out and thinking with you. Some of them speak good English some of them don't. Breakfast is good, but everyday the same.

Housekeeping everyday, everything is spotless and clean.

Only cold water shower, they should fix that but didn't.

If you need more than one transfer a day they ask 50.000rm

Diner over there is ok. It's overpriced for the small amount you get.

Wifi is good in the restaurant but unfortunately no wifi in the room. Only one television is in English

Such an energetic and welcoming staff! They keep the place clean, are very helpful, and provide a lovely breakfast. It's quiet and within walking distance to restaurants and the waterfront. Airport shuttle was a perk. Thank you!

1st night-ok if you don't mind bedsheets with stains&mouldy walls.

2nd night-room stunk of sewage.

Not wanting to make a fuss I turned on A/C&hoped it would go away. Within 15minutes I had a headache&felt sick. I informed reception the room smelt. The main receptionist didn't want to attend so sent a young girl&gave her an air freshener-
to which I said no covering it up will not make the smell go away. The young girl came&went. I waited&nothing happened.

Now feeling really ill in the room I went to reception to find them laughing.I asked what was happening&she informed me there was no rooms.Having been on agoda&also walked around I knew there were free rooms.

I was offered a standard twin, downgraded from a deluxe. I explained the sewage was their problem& a downgrade was not an option.

I was told to sit in reception, time now 22:45, and I was getting up at 6:30 to go diving! After 45mins I was moved to a VIP room and told by the main receptionist: "one night only" this was as I proceeded to vomit - the sewage smell and fumes had been so bad that it made me actually vomit three times!

I received no apology, no checking that I was ok, just a reiteration: "one night only". What a terrible way to deal with a customer!

I was made to feel like the stinking sewage was my fault. I didn't even mention the mound on the wall or the dirty sheets of stains and hairs.

The VIP room was a bamboo hut full of mosquitoes, humid and A/C didn't work. To add insult to injury the neighbour has his TV blaring all night and I was too scared to ask reception to tell him to turn it down.

I was made physically sick, treated appallingly and lied to my face.

I urge travellers to avoid this place. There are more options in town with nicer service and better quality rooms and facilities.

Dreadful!

Centro Bajo is a new place - open for just 9 months. We made our reservations through email and the staff were very responsive. The place is clean and the super-friendly staff can help you plan whatever activity you want - dragons, boat rental, snorkeling, diving. The price was great as well, which they were open to negotiating a bit. The restaurant comes with reliable Wi-Fi. There’s a little trail out back through the forest to watch a stunning sunset. We rented a boat through Centro Bajo and did two days out at sea, sleeping on the boat one night near Komodo. It made sense for us to stay on the boat as we wanted to visit both Rinca and Komodo. The trip to Komodo from Labuan Bajo takes approx 3 hours by boat and we didn’t want to spend 6 hours a day going back and forth on the boat.

For your boat, I highly recommend Captain Mat if Centro Bajo can book him. He’s a superb chef, cooking delicious and diverse meals, even accommodating vegetarians. Mat was also open to making changes to the order of the trip and helped us meet our objectives. We wanted to snorkel with Manta Rays so he took us there in the morning, but unfortunately we didn’t see the rays. But we went to amazing beaches and reefs for snorkeling. We saw seemingly miles of healthy, stunning coral life, reef sharks and a sea turtle. On Komodo, we saw two dragons; on Rinca, two dragons and a baby dragon in a tree. We also saw water buffalo, many birds, deer, and a snake. Centro Bajo also included a one day tour in Flores visiting a cool limestone cave and nearby village.

Enjoy your time in Komodo!

Out of 3 months of travel this hotel was my biggest disappointment.

I had a terrible reaction to Centro Bajo! I booked two nights via Agoda.com, thinking it was a bit of a treat, and discovered it was horrible and way overpriced. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere; at least a 20-25 minute walk through nothing scenic to the harbor, restaurants, and dive shops. It looks like something out of the Soviet era of architecture. The room they gave me for $25 a night had a pit toilet with no flush, cold water shower, and a window which overlooked the parking lot. The front desk staff promised that since I was diving early the next day I could have a breakfast at 6:45am. I waited in the breakfast area until 7:10am and no food was there-- the front desk staff was entirely unhelpful. I have zero idea why people choose to stay here when there are so many less expensive and/or far better quality options in town. I transferred to Gardena hotel and loved it.

I've stayed here for three years running. The hotel doesn't look much in the photos or from outside when you arrive, but it's designed to face into the hillside and when you get inside, you'll find a very pleasant traditional Indonesian architecture with wide corridors and high ceilings that allow the air to move through and keep the place cool, even on very hot nights. The rooms are basic, but clean. The restaurant has a short menu with a couple of very good seafood dishes. I recommend the ikan pepes, fish grilled with onions and tomatoes in banana leaves.

The hotel is located on the way out of town, a 15 to 20 minute walk from the tourist centre, but they offer a free drop off and pick up every day. They also offer free airport pickup and drop off. Other benefits are free coffee and fried bananas every afternoon. The hotel is popular with Indonesians, but there are usually a couple of foreign guests.

The service is always friendly and helpful and the front office staff speak reasonable English. They'll do whatever they can to help you. So, although it's not in the centre of town, if you want to get out of the backpacker ghetto, this is worth a try.

I will start by saying that the staff here are lovely. They will always say hello and smile when you walk past them in the hotel. They offer a free shuttle which you can use once a day which is great! A lady at reception helped me organise my Komodo Island tour through someone she knew. She also voluntarily made me breakfast to take away with me the morning of my trip which was before the hours that breakfast had officially started so I thought this was kind of her. The airport is only a 10 minute drive away so that is a bonus after a long day travelling,

My main issue was the cleanliness. Now I don't know if I just got unlucky and it was my room as I had read other reviews before I booked the hotel and most of these were positive. I am by no means a clean freak but there was a long hair on the bed when I arrived. There were also what looked like blood stains on the sheets. The sheet also had cigarette burns on it. I questioned whether these sheets had even been washed after the previous guests stay. This was a major downside for me and made me feel uncomfortable during my stay.

The room is spacious with lots of room to walk about and unpack your things. There is a TV in the room however it only has a few channels which are all in Indonesian. There is no safe for your valuables. They provide free soap and shampoo in the bathroom. The shower is open with no glass to stop the water from going everywhere so if you are having a shower the toilet seat gets wet.

The wifi would cut out often and I barely had it for most of my stay.

I cant really say anything other than good things about this place. We arrived with the intention of spending 3 nights here but ended up staying for 12 nights due to both of us being ill!! The hotel itself is clearly not 100% perfect but for the cheap price you pay why would you expect that!

What really helps it stand out is the staff, they were ultra friendly and helpful throughout out time, even offering to take us to the local hospital at one point.

They have a free shuttle to and from town which you can use once a day. And you can catch a bemo (small van/bus) for only 5000 rupiah each aswell.

The whole town of Labuan Bajo is still in development, and from what we seen around town we feel that this place is a great choice for anyone coming here.

Would definately stay again!
