Positive? Clean, Dog friendly, hot tub, use of a fireplace and a great view, but that's about where it ends for me. No pictures of the interior on the website should have been a big red flag for us. We should have checked trip advisor. Everything was extremely clean but extremely outdated. Very '90s vibe, and not in a fun way. There is soap and shampoos provided and though they smelled great, they were so cheap and drying. Because there's not a lot of restaurants or places to shop in the direct area we knew we would have to cook which is totally fine and something we prepared for. We didn't prepare for the fact that the stove doesn't work properly(the only large burner was either all or nothing. You couldn't cook past 2 without burning your food), the knives that are provided are either heavily damaged or completely dull and that the cookie sheet provided is sparkling cleaner because it doesn't even fit in the oven. There were a couple of greasy dishes in the cupboard that had us scrambling to find something to put the food in so it didn't burn while we washed them. that gave me an indication that maybe the dishes don't get checked on the checkout clean. We gave up cooking our second night just because dinner the night before and breakfast was such a pain in the butt due to the headache it was becoming. we didn't come here to stress about utensils and cooking applications. It has a hot tub which is cool but only half the Jets actually work which was kind of disappointing. A few of the lower jet covers are broken so there's sharp pieces if you're not careful. For the price of this place, the only thing it really has going for it is that there IS a hot tub and you have a good view. We wanted to stay at Point No Point, which is the same price but they didn't have any dog friendly rooms available so we chose this place, which ended up being a total blast from the past. Not the way we wanted to spend our one year wedding anniversary (together 13). All in all a pretty disappointing stay.

Fossil Bay is great. Good prices, spectacular views, cozy hot tubs, excellent internet connection, tv cable. You need to bring your own fire wood and house coat but otherwise rivals Point No Point (which does not have in cabin internet). Beds were new and comfortable. Easy to book.

Most amazing views from the hot tub on our deck! The open fireplace is very romantic. King bed is very comfortable and all bedding is provided. Bring a robe and slippers to walk on the tile floor. Close to Jordan River to surf. We hired boards in Sooke and loved surfing all day and stargazing in the hot tub at night. Amazing weekend!

Woke up in middle of night to use bathroom. Turned light on and saw thousands of baby spiders rappelling from ceiling. Made partner go around and get them. Would have left but had a few drinks before bed. Next day owner said they were aware there had previously been a problem but thought it had been taken care of. Only partially credited which was disappointing. When we left, we noticed lots of dead baby spiders everywhere, including our bed. Yuck! The hot tub was great but unfortunately the ocean views were completely obstructed due to it being wild fire season in BC and there was a smoky, hazy sky. The cabin itself was also pretty dated. It’s a lovely location but I just wouldn’t go back again.

We've stayed here many, many time over the last several years and absolutely love it! All the basics you need plus a fantastic view, hot tub, privacy....did I say view! Comfy king bed, full bath, fireplace and full kitchen await you along with the sound of Pacific Ocean waves. We always go back!

Had a wonderful, relaxing 3 night stay at this beautiful location again. The views are spectacular, and the hot tub on the deck is a perfect way to enjoy them. We visited last year, and were so happy to return this year. These cabins have all the basics supplies covered to cook your own meals. We do bring our own small barbecue for grilling on the deck though. We found the bed and couch comfortable, and enjoyed using the fireplace with fire logs we brought with us. When you visit here I suggest you bring large towels or robes for hot tub use. Thank you to Maria for sharing this wonderful property with us, hope to return again!

The view is stunning and it was great to sit outside n the hot tub to enjoy it, but the owners need to spend a bit on some updates. The furniture and appliances are from the 70’s and were budget then. Towels, sheets, etc were all poor quality so there was nothing nice about the living space. It’s almost like an old run down fishing cabin but 4 times the price Also, there is nowhere to walk on the grounds (no beach access) except on the gravel drive. For the price, Point no Point is a far better deal. At least it has nice amenities. I would not recommend Fossil Bay to anyone.

This trip is the third time we have been here after trying it instead of point no point. The draws to this cabin over point no point is the wifi, cable, television, and cost, as well that it reminds us of Mexican hotels with the tile and the feel. The owners of the cabin remember us from staying here before and are very nice to deal with. The cabin itself is stunning with beautiful views and a hot tub to die for. This cabin has a very clear view of the ocean unlike their neighbors point no point having to many trees in the way to see. Overall this cabin is stunning and worth any romantic outing that you can think of, I just wish it cost a little less.

Stayed here for our anniversary. We love the south shore and have stayed at 2 other cabin type resorts in the area and wanted to give this one a try. The view is very nice, the wi-fi works well and the hot tub is partially covered so you can get out of the rain or be exposed if the weather is nice. Other than that, it is highly overpriced for what it is. It is not cosy (ceramic, unheated tiles with no area rugs) or appealing from a decor perspective. It is not particularly clean, other than the bathroom. We concluded that the kitchen equipment had been procured at Dollar Store and the furniture had likely come from a Thrift shop. The cabins accommodate 2 and there were exactly 3 plates (Corelle with chipped edges, ) and 3 forks, knives & spoons. In their instructions they state that real wood should not be used in the fireplace "unless you are an expert firelighter or don't mind smoke"! They suggest you use the artificial logs. When we arrived, the unit smelled unpleasantly like burning chemicals from the previous tenants logs and could still be smelled 24 hours later. We will not be back.

Stayed here for my birthday with my boyfriend, arrived on Wednesday evening. The bed is not comfortable and the sheets often slip off, when I went to put them back on the bed I noticed yellow stains everywhere. Kinda gross. I went to grab a wine glass and saw it had a red stain inside, had a sniff and it was obvious the person before me (or the house cleaner) didn't wash the dishes because it smelt of red wine ( and the cup was dirty ). They say everything is included as far as utensils/cooking equipment, but the "sheet pan" they gave was just a slotted sheet with tinfoil wrapped around it... and no extra tin foil. So if you wanted to use it twice , you're out of luck. The Elements on the oven barely heat up, so we ended up using the very tiny oven for most things.. not big enough to fit more than one thing in at a time. Curtains are stained, couch is ripped and worn, furniture is outdated. Bathroom is amazing, clean and bright. The view is incredible, and the hot tub is relaxing. I spoke with the house cleaner who was outside as I was recycling, and she was very nice. I don't like how there is no phone in the suites, because there is no service where the cottage is located, and if there was an emergency it could be bad. This is my second time here, and I don't think I'll return. It's very overpriced for what it is, and you're mostly paying for the view.
