If you're visiting Piha, then this is THE place to stay. I stayed during this past summer and it was one of the best decisions I made during my time in New Zealand. All three suites are less than a minute's walk to the beach and maintained to the highest standards. Relish you're privacy or get to know Bobbie and... More

We have been lucky enough to stay at Black Sands Lodge in the beach cabin for the past 5 years. The cabin is cosy and clean and a true picture of an original " kiwi batch " and nothing is too hard for your wonderful hosts Julia and Bobbie. Relax and enjoy your time here with the beach or a bush... More

Booked the studio closest to the beach.....two minute walk to to pristine coastline. What a lovely eacape from busy Auckland. Studio was tidy , clean and comfy. As there was no oven, Bobbie cooked our enchilada meal for us, did a good job too ! Great location, friendly hosts. Will definitely go back sometime again

What a perfect weekend away from our busy lives in Auckland! Footsteps to the beach, the RSA and quick walk to the Piha Cafe for breakfast. It was so relaxing waking up to the sound of nature, and Bobbie and Julia were perfect hosts! The perfect weekend getaway, we will definitely be back!

The Black Sands Lodge was a great place to enjoy our holiday. It's located only 3 minutes from 2 amazing beaches with nice lookouts and great opportunities to go surfing and hiking. Only 7 minutes from the Black Sands Lodgs, by foot, lies a great little cafe, perfect to have a nice breakfast and to get to know the locals.... More

We spent several days at the Kauri suite - very comfortable and the service was great too. Near the beach but out of the wind and surrounded by trees. Lovely!

The Tui Suite is much too small and basic considering the rate per night ($180 when we stayed). Way too expensive relative to what that rate will get you elsewhere in NZ - especially at this time of year. The living area is extremely small - consisting of one extremely uncomfortable two-seater couch, and the bed (whether it be double... More

Black Sands Lodge in Piha, New Zealand is a delightful oasis. It is located within walking distance to the beach and the town of Piha with restaurants and cafes. Our cottage was nestled amongst native foilage and bush that is expertly taken care of by the owners of the Lodge. A large deck with table and chairs affords you a... More

One of the most picturesque and relaxing places on the planet. Bobbie and Julia organised a bus to pick me up from the airport and also got a free upgrade for a night aswell which was a great send off. Really was an ideal few days spent eating writing listening to music and surfing in a spot about 100m from... More

I stayed in the cabin at Black Sands Lodge my first two nights in New Zealand, it was the perfect place to recover after the long flight. The beach was not crowded and there were plenty of places within walking distance. It was so quiet at night, I slept very well and didn't suffer jet lag at all. Bobbie and... More
