My sister and I stayed overnight and had a wonderful time at Birkin House. We loved everything! The friendly welcome, the ornate but comfortable rooms, the wonderful setting and the delicious breakfast the next morning. The hotel does not have a restaurant, but Dorchest is not far away. The house itself is amazing as every room is different, but all spacious... More

What a change from so many ‘country House Hotels’. Right from the moment you walk in the door and in my case was met by the smell of pot grown lilies to the call of the peacocks in the gardens it was all so enchanting. I stayed at this lovely Victorian Country House for 2 nights. Yes, the TV in... More

This beautiful victorian mansion is the perfect place to relax and feel welcome. The house is in the middle of a big garden where peacocks stroll lazily, very quiet and private, yet only a 5' ride from Dorchester. The rooms are spacious and ooze history, the breakfast excellent and the hospitality can hardly get any better. Very strongly suggested!

We only stayed one night. The room was spacious, comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was very good and hospitality outstanding. The dining room was very spacious with beautiful orchids and views of the lovely gardens. The only very slight 'niggle ' was the size of the TV in the bedroom and availablity of channels ( caused by digitalisation) We will return

What a wonderful place to get away from it all. It's welcoming, quirky, comfortable and a great base to explore this beautiful part of England. Everything about this place has personality in abundance from the building itself through to the resident cat and peacocks. A special mention must, however, go to the manager, Neil, who makes you feel like the... More

Stayed here for a week in Summer 2011. Wonderful, especially the breakfasts, which can be practically any combinaion if pre-ordered the night before. This, and the general welcome were first rate - well done Neal. Difficult to add to what others have said except to say it's worth upgrading to one of the more superior rooms if they are available... Stayed here for two nights as a base for pottering around the area on a wedding anniversary trip, what a find! If you like places like Holiday Inn etc then I suspect this is not the place for you. It is charming, comfortable, beautifully clean and to use a rather over used word, quirky. I think Alex Polizzi would have... More

My wife and I only spent one night on the way to the ferry in Weymouth. If only we could have stayed for longer. The rooms were charming and the whole place just oozed old world charm. All in all a wonderfully relaxing experience. Thoroughly recommended!

I stayed with my sister for three nights and absolutely loved it. The rooms are beautifully furnished, exceptionally clean and unspoiled. The breakfasts were excellent and the setting wonderful. It proved a good base for touring Dorset and we enjoyed excellent walking opportuntities all in easy reach. It is easily accesible from London and now that the roads are improved... More

One of the other reviews mentioned that it was like staying with friends relatives...well it but in a really good way! The rooms are beautiful, like a comfortable and up to date stately home, whilst the owners are friendly and welcoming, with character, wit and banter that makes such a refreshing antidote to chain hotels and places where people can't...
