Stayed one night on 5 May and booked dinner as a precaution in case everywhere else was booked up on a Saturday night, as indeed they were. Didn't much like the look of the Table d’Hote Dinner menus at £37.50 plus VAT plus 10% 'for good service' but couldn't get in anywhere else. We had room 19 at the very... More

Beautiful old hotel with very lovely and helpful staff. If you love old buildings and history then this is the place to come. However, in our opinion the accommodation is pretty expensive for what it is. Rooms are lovely but make sure you know what your ensuite comprises if you don't want to be squatting in a bath with no... More

We have stayed in Rye many times, but this is the first time at The Mermaid. It felt so special staying in an inn that is so old and steeped in history. There were four of us in our group who stayed in Dr Syn's bedchamber and the Elizabethan room. We were able to walk though to each other's room... More

The Mermaid Inn is just quite exceptional. Having spent a weekend there I left want to go back. It is full of character and a place to build fond great memories. Due to its Layout it will keep you puzzled and exploring. With a guest list like a list of who's who it is a definite must to do place... More

Just returned from yet another fantastic stay at the Mermaid Inn. It's hard to add anything which hasn't already been said. The whole place is steeped in history and has a wonderful ambience, including the Elizabethan Chamber, with its not-so-secret back staircase behind the wood panelling. Amazingly, the creation of an ensuite bathroom off the bedroom hasn't spoilt the character... More

We stayed in the Elizabethan Chamber (Rm 16) for one night at the weekend. The hotel is lovely. Having been (re)built around 1420, it is incredibly old, ful of charm and history. Everything is wonky, curtains don;t quite cover lopsided windows, the floors creak like mad, walls are thin and the doors don't quite fit, so you can hear noise... More

Stayed here start of March on a spur of the moment treat with wife and son over Easter, The History and Attention to detail of the place is magnificent, The Quality and preservation of the building is outstanding, Only had Breakfast and Bar food for the duration of the stay, although the Evening Menu was very very tempting, Service and... We enjoyed a great weekend break at the Mermaid over Easter; what an incredible place to stay, I don't think we will ever find somewhere else dating back to the 1100s! What I really loved was the sense of history, and Rye itself is a lovely place to explore. Dinner at The Mermaid was quite outstanding, and the staff friendly... More
