We tried the guest house once and were distinctly underwhelmed. Biggest complaint was just how small the rooms were. Not enough room to breathe let alone swing a cat. Shame, as the location, next to St Mary;s Church in Rye took some beating. I know Rye intimately having been to school there. Also a friend got married in St Marys... More

I have to disagree with others who have written snippy reviews here. We stayed in the in the Merrythought Room, a separate room by the church. We were there on an exceptionally cold weekend and found Helen and her staff to be extremely welcoming and attentive. The room was cosy, well heated and the bathroom, although small, was fine. Very disappointing. The location is very good, and the coffee shop part is fine, but the rooms are shabby. Maybe they were nice when the conversion was first done a few years back, but the place has been allowed to become grubby. The bed was very lumpy, and basic things like adequate towel hanging space, or something to grab when... More

We booked the Merrythought for the weekend. It's an annex around the corner from the Apothecary. When we got into the room, I thought it was a joke. Tatty and scruffy. From the grubby windows to the soiled carpet, I lived in better student houses. If we hadn't already had pre-booked train tickets, or could have found another place for... More

We stayed here a lot over the past three years, and watched trendy tatty become just tatty. My other half always preferred this place to me and as we weekend at least once a month in Rye, it was anything for a quiet life to agree to stay there again. The bathroom was too small to have a wash or... More

The Apothecary was not our first choice but we booked late and it was the only place available. I read the reviews and was prepared for it to be a little tatty, which it was, but the owner was lovely, very welcoming and helpful in advising us of places to eat etc. The first thing my husband asked when we... We stayed in the Eves Room at the top of a narrow flight of stairs. Being an attic room, the ceiling sloped which didn't present any problems. The room size was on the cosy side but clean, quiet and comfortable with views over the rooftops of other buildings. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided. A continental breakfast consisting of... More

Charming B&B on first floor above coffee shop. Nice, shabby-chic room with four-poster bed. Welcoming hostess. Excellent breakfast in coffee shop. Charming town. Rye Harbour and Nature Reserve just outside town.

This is a lovely B&B. We stayed in the four poster room. It was a bit small but sweet. Well equipped, it had everything you would need--cabinet space, clean bathrooms, fridge, silverware. Breakfast was copious and fresh and the coffee was great. Service was very friendly and helpful. The price was very reasonable--a great value.
