Arrived Saturday afternoon, the staff were very welcoming, they showed us to our room and it was beautiful. The location of the hotel was perfect, right in the middle of the town. Our room was very quiet and we slept very well. The breakfast was lovely, and the staff again were very nice and friendly. This hotel was value for... More

I've a soft spot for The Trout as we used it as a base when house hunting in Cumbria and because my eldest daughter was married there. That doesn't stop me being critical of it, however, the bistro having been a bit 'hit and miss' over the years, although the restaurant has always maintained a very high standard. Because of... More

Lovely stay with friends, the Superior executive room was to die for overlooking the river with a balcony, room spacious and clean, very quiet, we ate in the bar. service fast, starter lovely. My steak meal was disappointing and expensive, crème brulee was delicious Breakfast was lovely. staff helpful and friendly. Will definitely recommend and stay again.

Managed to book this on-line a week before we arrived. Glad we did book as the hotel was very busy. As it was the bank holiday weekend the hotel was full but I noticed a large number of local people used the facilities which is a good indication that what they provide is very popular. As my wife is from... More

We stayed here on Saturday night our second time at this lovely hotel, once again our room was first class, staff friendly and helpful, breakfast was very busy and we were sat in the lounge area and felt the breakfast was not quite as good as our first stay last year but this could have been because they were full.... every thing was excellent as usual, the only complaint we have is that there should be hand rails to hold onto when having a shower as its so easy to slip inside the bath. Also think they should have a simple tomato or equivalent soup as not every can eat curried or spicy soup.

We had lunch in this lovely hotel after trawling around Cockermouth looking for a place that served steak! We were not disappointed, it was the largest one I have ever tried to eat. Not for the faint hearted! It was done to perfection. The chips are homemade, large and chuncky. Just two points - It was served with a very... More

My partner and I were bought here by his family as they are local and actually got married at the Hotel. We came for food in the evening and were given the warmest of welcomes and made to feel like we were all local and regulars. The food was second to none. One of us had a longer wait for... More
