Popped in the restaurant to have some breaded chicken that we had before on another visit, but the menu had changed, i ordered the homemade steak and ale pie and was blown away by how good it was. Tender meat that melted in the mouth and the pie was jam packed too, absolutely fantastic. Well done chef!

We didn't stay in the hotel, just had a meal in the restaurant. It was the first place we walked into. We thought we'd have a drink to see what it was like inside first. You could eat in the main bar with bar meals but we noticed there was a more formal restaurant through some glass double doors at... More

One dreary September day my wife and I took our two dear children to meet relatives in this beautiful part of the world, an area in which I had spent so much of my youth but have not returned to for sadly many years. We met at the Travel Lodge opposite Ash cottage and spent a lovely family day there... More

Just returned from our third stay at Ash Cottage. This hotel is very friendly and relaxed with lovely rooms and good staff. Very clean and modern with excellent entertainment on Saturday evenings. The prices are reasonable and the hotel is in the centre of the village. We look forward to our next stay.

Just returned from a 5 days' stay at Ash Cottage. When I was shown my room, it was love at first sight for me! Furnished with taste, comfortable, clean; everything one can wish for. Modern and well equippped bathroom. Very good quality for money. As a solo traveller it is not always easy to find pleasant accommodation, and I am... More

Had a few drinks here post Royal wedding last Friday. On a sunny afternoon there were many royalists reveling but mostly to the disdain of the patron who preferred to leave the bar work to his very sullen eastern block barmaid while he strummed his guitar in the front dining room!

Well that is what Touring Tigger was told by an off duty member of staff at the bar in a pretty obnoxious way. Let’s start at the beginning. Firstly, we only ate here and did not stay. About an hour earlier Touring Tigger had ordered a home made burger made from the meat of locally reared beef, Mrs TT ordered... More

We only had a meal one night during our week's stay in Grasmere. The food was average, at best. Even the chips were dry!! It was less expesive that the other restaurants in Grasmere, but still not cheap. Not worth the money - we won't be back.

Whilst we didn't stay at Ash Cottage ,we decided to have our anniversary meal there. The menu posted outside the hotel seemed appealing but was a huge disappointment. My husband asked if he could have a peppercorn sauce with his steak but was told that the only sauce available was Tabasco!-the chef apparently said that he didn't have the ingredients to... More
