I'm beginning to doubt that I actually spent last night (20th September) at the Waterside in Grasmere - given some of recent reviews. Myself and 2 friends paid £44 each for a 3 single bed economy room with full breakfast. Before booking, the website advised that the room was in need of some refurbishment and overlooked the road, but given... More

This hotel is desperately in need of updating and needs a good clean as well. Yes the paint is peeling of the front doors which didn't really bother us but there was a big bin/ ashtray which was full of wet soggy cigarette ends. The gardens and planters have been neglected and look an eye sore. There were glasses and... More

We were going to stay here to pick our son up from camp at Ambleside. Should have known it was dodgy when we walked in and the front door was propped open by an ashtray with staff fagging it outside. Reception were distinctly unhelpful. Had booked half board, but nobody had booked a table. Got to room, right next to... More

Had booked our stay here using the hotels own website and on the strength of the photos used on the said website. What deception !!! The economy room we booked was clean, but very dark and very old fashioned - funny how one of these rooms doesn't feature on the website. Yes I know it was an economy room but... More

We arrived at the hotel in the early evening, it is a great location but is a very run down hotel- a real shame. The whole place smells of damp and when we got to our room on the ground floor- the small was awful. The room was basically right on the road so a little noisey. There was also... More

We booked our stay at this hotel on the strengh of the very glamorous web site. Bad mistake. We actualy drove past it thinking it could not be place we were looking for. Unfortunatley it was. If the first immpression was bad it was about to get worse. Whilst waiting at reception the couple in front of us were telling... More

Please do not book this hotel ,the pictures on there website must be 20 yrs old it looks nothing like it. We stayed in a upgraded lakeview room for £230.00 for 2 nights I can honestly say it is the worse place for the money I have stayed at. Just wished I had checked the bad reviews before we went... We booked a two day break at this hotel thinking it to be tranquil according to the website, it was situated next to a pretty lake but what it does not tell you is that it is right on a very busy main road. The constant noise from the traffic shatters any dreams of a tranquil setting. On our way... More

This was a one night stay with friends. I agree that the outside could do with a facelift. However, the quality of the inside is really lovely. Lots of wood, sofas and carpets. It was warm and snug and cosy. The bedrooms were really nice. In fact very high quality. It isn't often you get a full sized bath in... More
