St. Michael's guesthouse is one of the only guesthouses located directly in the center of Oxford. Margaret, the landlady, is spectacularly welcoming and helpful. The rooms are clean and cozy. As there is no online booking system, your best bet is to double check your reservation a few weeks before your arrival. The price and the location can't be beat.... More

Despite the vastly unrealistic unfavourable reviews below, St Michaels is a perfect stopping off point in Oxford. Yes, the building is old, in fact its a listed 500 year old building I believe. But, the rooms and furnishings are quaint and in keeping with the type of property. The atmosphere is welcoming, as is Margaret the landlady. I use this... More

I admit I was somewhat suspicious when I was booking a single room over the phone. The lady who runs the place didn't seem to care about booking details too much. I realised when I arrived that she's very old fashioned. The whole place is small(3 storey) and humble but very clean. There are a common toilet and a common... More

I live in Oxford but stayed here for one night after a night out in the city center. Room was dirty - bed and other furniture covered in dust and the carpet looked like it hadn't been vacuumed for a long time. The furniture was on their last legs. The stairs leading to the room was steep, uneven and frankly unsafe,... More

St. Michael's Guest House is a little run-down around the edges. The rooms and bathrooms are aging and not entirely attractive; the aesthetic is similar to that of a youth hostel. It also seemed to be a few doors down from a homeless shelter which constantly had some dodgy, often noisy people around. But the staff here was kind and... More

Having booked late and by phone, I was a little concerned about this place; there was no-one here when we arrived a few hours earlier than planned, but when I returned, the landlady was there again. The rooms have no en-suite facilities aside form a sink, and the milk cartons had gone off in the heat (I expect people don't... More

this place is a kip and is surely a fire-trap! cheap decor and bed clothes, looks like the furniture came from a skip. you would want to be in complete control of your senses to descend the stairs, one false move and you're toast!

We went to Oxford to meet up with family & celebrate the new year in, & booked into this little guest house at short notice. It's tucked up in a little side street which you may miss if you don't know its there. It looks quite ordinary from the outside, but is so quaint inside. Though the place is seemingly... More

We stayed at St Michaels whilst visiting Oxford and found Margaret to be an excellent hostess. Less than 2 minutes walk from the High Street in Oxford city centre. Plenty of pubs and restaurants within minutes and 5 minutes from railway station. Opposite the famous Oxford Student Union. A warm and very friendly guest house. A very affordable rate for... More

This place was suggested by St Peter's College nearby, where I was on a weekend course, but I followed their recommendation with trepidation in view of the poor reviews below. I had better luck. A muddle about my £10 deposit was resolved with an apology: the lady in charge had had a knee operation and her daughter paid in my... More
