My partner and I paid £59 for a two night stay. On arrival, we were both impressed with the roaring fire in the Forge Bar, but was less impressed with the service from the young man behind the bar. Nice to stay in a non corporate hotel for a change. Friendly staff, nice bar menu and good beer. Sitting by the open fire of a evening is welcoming. Free wifi. Rooms have been updated and modernised over the years - LCD tv, modern bathrooms etc. Good value for the price.

This is a true favorite of mine. I've never been let down by the beer or the food. Staff (bar one) are always courteous, knowledgeable and helpful.

We recently went to dinner at the Bird in Hand. The welcome was warm and friendly and the atmosphere was very pleasant. The staff were friendly and efficient and provided excellent service. The food was exceptional and we will certainly go back for more. We had a lovely evening and would recommend this venue.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Pleasant, modern, good sized rooms. Made to feel very welcome by all of the staff. Breakfast very good.
