I stayed at The Angel with my husband and daughter for one night and we found it to be faultless. We had adjoining rooms which were very convenient and the rooms were large and airy. The beds were very comfortable. The evening meal was excellent and as it was sunny we were able to eat in the courtyard which felt... More

This won't be the best hotel you'll ever stay at in terms of facilities and decor but there's something quite lovely about The Angel. Its in Abergavenny, the gateway to the Brecons and the Black Mountains, a draw in itself and the hotel is in the heart of the town - an impressive building, oozing tradition and history, charming rooms... My partner and I have just spent our third weekend at The Angel, and it didn't disappoint!! The old coaching inn has been updated beautifully. Some of the bedrooms are a little old fashioned, but they are squeaky clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. The reason this hotel stands out for us is the courtesy and friendliness of the staff, the delicious... More

We have just stayed here for the second time and have witnessed the progress of the extensive renovations first hand. This hotel is lovely. It has lots of character as it's higgeldy piggeldy in places, with pleasant little courtyards. We had a superior room this time, and yes, whilst quite expensive, was very pleasant. An impeccable bathroom, wonderfully comfy bed,... More

We stopped off en-route to Carmarthanshire, and my wife found this heavenly hotel. We had tea and a sandwich each. The fillings were plentiful and tasty - plus the staff and atmosphere were first class. We will be back.

The Angel is a special hotel for my family and has been for over 50 years, long after my parents first stayed there in the 1950s and are now both 'long gone' themselves. Last Saturday someone special in my life and two very good friends ate in The Angel for my birthday dinner. It was superb from start to finish... More

It's probably the excellently trained staff that make this place so pleasant to stay in. The feeling that eyes are on you, not to see what you are doing, but to see that your needs are being met. We enjoy the fact that we could mingle with the locals in the bar, and be offered the same menu as the... More

Yes, it’s expensive. We stayed in one of refurbished rooms (very pleasant but alas a little noisy) that go some way to justifying the cost. However if you go for the Gourmet break package this starts to make sense. A complimentary taxi to the Walnut Tree for a sublime dinner and a second evening at the hotels own good restaurant... More

Stayed on a Thursday and booked very last minute. Parking was easy. We were offered a free upgrade to a very nice double room which appeared to have been recently renovated and the decor was very nice. The bed was very comfy and with lots of soft pillows. The room was also very quiet with a large bathroom with seperate... More

We had a stay here a few weeks ago and the Hotel is very dated. We spent alot of money here and was very dissapointed. Staff are in there own world and very slow service and the room was in need of a facelift. We wouldn't return here and if you have more money than sense then you will probably... More

Dear Guest, I am sorry you were disappointed with your stay; however I wish you had made you points known to reception so we could have rectified the problems. The hotel has been undergoing extensive refurbishments for the past 10 years and will continue with further refurbishments for another 5 years. As the building is very old, this all takes... More
