We stayed here with some friends prior to a trip on the Llangollen canal. We had the hotel to ourselves (it was early season) which helped. As others have noted they have few staff, but they did a good job of looking after us - it may have been different if the hotel had been full. Rooms were nice and... More

Having read the previous review I thought we just had to comment.Stayed at Golden Pheasant for 2 nights with friends and family in May. good job we had a sense of humour! Basil, the porter, receptionist, bar man, waiter, maitre'd tried his hardest. but you cannot make a silk purse from a cows ear! They cannot run a hotel using... More

Unfortunately we had to stay at this dreadful Hotel for 4 nights due to the location being close to the area we were visiting on business. The Hotel is dirty, the lounge is like sitting in an old person's residential home, the furniture is like something from the 1950's!! The Hotel is freezing cold and there was no hot water... More

We had a great weekend here. The owner is laid back but always eager to help, from taking bags to your room from your car – how many places do that without charging an arm and a leg! – to suggesting walks in the afternoon and cocktails in the evening. Phil knows his stuff in the bar, loves to share... More

We booked this hotel as we had stayed here many years ago and wanted to return. Upon arrival we were greeted in reception by a lady who was very miserable and made me and my husband feel unconfortable. We were told we couldn't have a drink as the bar was closed! The rooms were outdated and dirty, the dust really... More

Guests arrived on a Monday three hours before check in without having given prior notice so that arrangements could have been made ahead of time. The inn is closed until check-in on Mondays. When we opened the front door for them, they seemed to be irritated and in a bad mood; the woman's first question was if it should really... More

We have just returned from a two night break in this beautiful part of Wales, surrounded by fantastic walking country. This was a last minute booking as we realised that the accommodation we had booked was not dog friendly, and this was a big pull for the Golden Pheasant. The room was extremely comfortable, with large wooden furniture and views overlooking the... Wales, a place of it's own. Llangollen with it's charm, and the great position of the hotel makes everything to pleasant stay! The food was really good and I'd actually could agree with the combination with welsh lamb and the mint-sauce on one plate. The rustic environment and cosy rooms were a joy and I felt not being home, as... More

A quiet and rustic hotel in the heart of the welsh countryside. The food was lovely and the room was spacious with a fantastic view across the countryside. The decor was a little shabby (floral carpets and peeling wallpaper) and i feel could probably do with a little updating. The four poster bed was probably a 18c original (creaked a... More
