Good hotel for the very young and the very old but needs to up its game. Food could be better, can't fault the breakfasts but for dinner focus on local produce, stop overcooking the veg and buy/bake some better bread rolls. Cheese should have been good but was disappointing, generous chunks but bland and oatcakes like soft rice cakes. Lighting... More

I would never stay at this hotel again, it was horrible on all accounts. In particular the food, it was inedible...I do not know how any chef could serve food of this standard. At breakfast the 'trolley' from which the buffet breakfast was served was dirty. When the chef came out to re-plenish the trolley his overalls looked like they... More

Location is stunning. The constant rain gave an ethereal feel to the area. The hotel is retains its original decor which is part of the experience. We stayed here as part of a 4 day course so our rooms were located in the new wing of the building probably added in the 70's. Fabulous pool with amazing views surrounding and... More

This grand dame of the Scottish hydro tradition has been rescued by the McMillan family. Decor is faded but the water is plentiful and hot the beds comfortable and clean. Half board meals are. Served efficiently in a grand dinning room with expansive southern views to the border. Hills.food is plentiful and varied accompanied by a pianist on Saturday evening.... More

If you have kids I would highly recommend it, they cater for every age. The facilities were clean and the staff couldn't do enough for you, the food was great plenty of variety, the service was excellent, the rooms were a good size and clean, our family had a brilliant weekend, going home with plenty of good memories:-)

My best friend and I have just come back from our annual weekend break. This year we chose to stay at the Peebles Hydro and what a good choice it was. We had a lovely big room (108) overlooking the gardens and the hills. The room was lovely and clean; the bathroom big and airy with a great shower and... More

Opinions are varied over the 'Hydro' (10 min walk from Peebles itself) but it depends on initial expectations and the purpose of the visit. We recently visited to share a friend's birthday and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Yes some parts of the hotel are 'Shabby Chic' but I believe this is reflected in the rates. The bedroom/bathroom we had was... More

This was our 4th visit to the Peebles Hydro and on this occasion we returned with extended family for a weekend stay. The hotel remains imposing from the outside and in the public areas with a large comfortable lounge and huge dining room. The upper corridors and rooms however are in dire need of some tlc but strangely the shabby... More

We have just returned from staying at the Peebles Hydro hotel. The hotel is a little dated, but everything is kept spotless. We found the staff very helpful from the ladies at reception to the man vacuum cleaning the corridor. We are a family of 5 and stayed in one of the hotels family rooms. The room was huge and easily accomodated us... More
