Decided to visit Scotland for the first time and booked a 3 night break in Fort William. Arrived at the hotel lunchtime and was disappointed with first impressions. The hotel looked tired and in need of refurbishment. We paid extra for a room with a view and we could not fault this especially in the mornings with views over the... More

Hotel in beautiful location. Good facilities. Helpful foreign staff. Bus tour-ville! Rooms desperately tired but with not too much refurb could be miles better. Come on Bay Hotels this particular asset has been sweated long enough, time to give it a little TLC! In its present state it leaves a bad impression of hotels in this beautiful part of the... More

Not an attractive hotel on first sights but you actually get everything you need. We paid extra for a scenic view from our room window and between the conifers, coach and cars (we were on the ground floor) I suppose that's what we got. The view we could see of Loch Linnhe was spectacular to say the least. The staff... More

Thank you very much for your comments; I am pleased you found so many aspects of your stay enjoyable. In some respects being a way from the town can be considered a downside but the surrounding area is compensation in itself. More

As with most the reviews I have read, the staff and service couldn't really be faulted. I did enjoy the food as well, especially the breakfast. Niggles however as although the view of the loch was really beautiful, it was a very long hike from the train station with hand luggage and climbing gear. And on a rare hot Scottish... More

Thank you for posting this review, I’m glad you found the staff and service to be good. We are quite a distance from the town but the surrounding scenery makes this worthwhile. I am unaware of us not being able to fulfil your request for a late check out but this may have been due to other guests’ arrival times... More

combined a Shearings 4 night break with a wedding! The Shearing bit not so good with a late departure, resulting in late arrivel and a rush to get into dinner at the hotel. The driver knew a lot about history but not good at all on friendliness to his paying customers. On the other hand staff at the hotel were... More

We have just returned from a week with Shearings staying at this hotel. We have had a great week, our room, which overlooked the loch, was lovely, bright, clean and warm. The staff were excellent, breakfast also excellent, maybe the evening meal just needs a little livening up,but overall, pretty good. We were concerned because the hotel is out of... More

Myself and two friends arrived at Caledonian Hotel on Friday 24th May 2013 after a long 6 hour drive from Manchester. This was to be our base for the weekend which would include an ascent of Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis. I have stayed at this hotel before with Shearings and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our rooms were clean with tea... More

Stayed here Dec 2012. Superb scenic location right on the Loch. Try and book room at the front, as there is. No view at rear. Rooms comfortable, with Tea & Coffee. Great as base to tour, though a long walk to anything else. Fort William would be a taxi or infrequent bus if your not in to a long walk.... More

Booked a tour of Scotland with a reputable coach company and paid an extra premium for an upgraded room--presumbably with a view of the loch. On arrival in our room the only "scenic view" was that of a storage shed with a small glimpse of the actual water. Having brought this to the attention of the manager on duty, I... More

Firstly, thank you for your comments; we appreciate praise and criticism as it ultimately improves our service. I am pleased you enjoyed the meals in the restaurant and found the staff to be attentive.
