Difficult to find and parking was an issue. Our room was on the top floor which involved more stairs than we anticipated. After a day of driving and sightseeing it was a slow climb upstairs. Bathrooms were very small and the shade on the small window did little to block the early morning light. We wee greeted warmly and given... More

It is walking distance from all the main attractions in Cork.Close to the bus station and train station. The owners are very helpful. The breakfast was average. Rooms are big, just in our room the wardrobe was a bit small. Overall it was good value for money. I liked the fact that they gave you a city map upon arrival.

We only stayed for one night. The owners were very nice. Our room was very outdated and had a strange odor to it. The house is old so you hear all the creeks. Breakfast was very good. It was a traditional Irish breakfast and we were waited on. It's very good for the price and very close to the main... More

We arrived at the Acorn House without a reservation due to a change of plans last minute. Situated on St.Patrick's hill, this guesthouse is a short 5 minute walk to city center. We found a parking spot right outside across the street and bought a parking pass at the bottom of the street, everything was very close. We had a... More

I suspect that the widely varying evaluations I see here are due to the room you get. We wound up in #7 on the third floor and it was barely acceptable. Charlie was very pleasant at check in. The room was way up three steep flights of stairs. It was clean but, plain, plain, plain, with worn carpet on the... More

Good Points: Location (very near city center and bus station) Bad Points: They make you pay in advance and I was told that I would lose my money if I left early; probably one of the most uncomfortable beds I've ever slept in (springs poking into my back); strange odor (maybe mold?); no use of the sitting room (the only... They charge you the second you walk in the door for your entire stay, we paid 2 nights and then couldn't leave early after we had such a bad experience as they had our money. They also charge you for breakfast, 7 Euro perrson per day, they cannot call themselves a B&B if they are going to charge. The breakfast... More

We were very lucky to be there during "Jazz Festival". The other B&B in Cork during that week had all "Jazz" price (double price?) but this B&B was okay. And the service was nice, the staff took time to show us on the map the places where we should go for enjoying Cork city. Only 5 min walking to the... More

Excellent location for city centre, as previously descirbed. It's only part way up a hill, only the seriously unfit or very old would have a problem. Good breakfasts, delicious soda bread beside usual breakfast selection. Owners very nice and helpful. Thoroughly recommended and would definitely stay again ever if ever back in Cork.

A well run B&B in an excellent location. It was further from the rail station than I expected and then had to climb half way up the hill to get to the house. Young and fit guests wouldn't have a problem but I was travelling alone and well over 60! There is a pub a couple of minutes away that... More
