Stayed here after meeting up with friends. Hotel staircase spectacular. Sadly rooms not although clean. Room on 5th floor, but surprisingly quiet considering there is an adjoining nightclub. Rooms do need updating. Did hear rumour it was going to be refurbished.

Stayed at the Britannia Hotel on Portland Street, Manchester for night night recently, midweek. Paid a very reasonable rate for room only Executive Double Room. On arrival, was updated to a Suite at no extra charge. While certainly the hotel, could do with some painting and redecorating, I dont think it warrants all the negatives it has been given by... Booked this for £28, so it is hard to complain about for such a cheap price. Room was clean, facilities fine, price excellent. I would, however, recommend you ask for a room at the back of the hotel as my room was on the front and the street noise kept me awake most of the night. That was the only... More

Stopped for two days with a heavily discounted Groupon offer. Executive room ! He must have worked for a very poor firm. Very dated dusty room, poor bedding, no heating, busted window mechanism. Staff were all miserable, humourless EU automatons, why no Mancs ? Very much past its sell by date. If its a very cheap offer youv'e got then... More

Dated Dirty Dispiriting I too should have read Tripadvisor. This place needs serious money spending. Tatty decor, cuts in the seats of the sofas , dirty nets (why?) crap non free view fitted televisions, cold breakfast buffet, I loose. The will to go on. It should be a magnificent experience. Instead I regret not booking in to the Premier Inn... More

I stayed here on sat and managed to book a room for myself for £29..was visiting friends and wanted a crash pad so I could sleep when they carried on partying. Right next to Canal Street (bonus), the building and interior was like a huge cruise ship and was very nice. I didnt expect much from the room going by... More

We stayed in room 528 on 18/5/13. The only plus i can say is.. what a wonderful piece of architecture! A truely beautiful building but unfortunately very tired and worn. I could have managed that for the one night but although the room was clean it was cold and no working heating. We were aware of the adjoining late night... More

Stayed here for a friends birthday and after reading negative reviews I became weary, upon booking we were told the room would have no windows, what kind of hotel has a room with no windows? Staff are not very friendly on reception and are all rude and abrupt and need some customer service skills. our room was on the third... More

My husband and myself were booked into this hotel for 4 nights on a coach tour of the area. After reading the reviews we were very anxious about the hotel, but we were pleasantly surprised. We had an executive twin bedded room which was quite large. Beds were very comfortable and clean. The bathroom spacious and clean also. The food... More

Stayed for 1 night midweek at a cheap price. Staff were helpful and entrance was very grand. Room however was not. Bed was very clean and comfortable (so main thing ok for us) but other things not so good. Only lamps (one bulb not working and one with a dodgy wiring), stained carpet and curtains, screws sticking out of (badly... More
