The rooms are dark and smell like cigarette smoke, with beaten-up furniture. The manager is inflexible, the desk staff are rude and lazy. Overpriced and smelly. Don't bother with this hotel---there are others in Mantua that give you a better deal and nicer experience.

Equidistant between the Ducal Palace and the Palazzo Te, it is an excellent base for seeing historic Mantua. The reception, restaurant and some of the rooms are a bit poky, but that is balanced by the friendliness of the staff, the better than standard breakfasts and the general attention to detail. Hotel Italia is located at the edge of the historic city centre and within easy walking distance of all the principal cultural attractions, shopping facilities and public transport. The hotel rooms are of a particularly generous standard, the buffet breakfast is ample and the staff friendly and helpful. Tariffs are very reasonable. Highly recommended.
