We stayed overnight in Beja last week and as anticipated, the Pousada San Francisco was excellent. We've stayed at a Pousada before so sort of knew what to expect, but we were still very impressed. The rooms and facilities were excellent. I would recommend without hesitation. Beja itself is a small uneventful town. I would agree with other comments that... More

Beautiful, historical building with impressive large halls, reception, dining room as well as small lounges to relax with friends. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped and the staff were excellent as indeed was the buffet breakfast. Beja is not a particularly attractive, agricultural town but the old centre, castle, cathedral and museums are well worth a day's visit. This... More

The town of Beja is a little off the beaten track, therefore not convenient to get to other places. The town does not have much to offer, in my opinion, we did not find many good restaurant choices. The Pousada is nice, lots of empty spaces. Very clean and the staff was very accommodating. We did not enjoy the dinner... More

You might think that all the rooms are the same but there is only one suite at Pousada de Beja, and it is worth the small supplement. From the moment you open the door to the room, you realise that this is something special - a long corridor before you get to the large corner bedroom overlooking the park, the... More

This superb hotel was created out of a one-time Fransican Convent. The spacious opulence of the building, plus the modern comforts of bedrooms created out of one time cells, seems to run counter to Fransiscan vows of poverty. We enjoyed the two nights we stayed here: the staff were very attententive and we enjoyed the local cuisine served for dinner.... More

This is a lovely hotel in a very sleepy village with not much to do. But if its what you are looking for, it is definitely worth a visit. It used to be a convent so its pretty stunning. Rooms have a lot of character and the only things missing are coffee and tea facilities, and Internet in rooms. Breakfast... More

The building alone is worth the visit: if this would not be a hotel, one would pay for the entrance! Perfect historic atmosphere matches with very friendly service, a good restaurant (try the local black porc!), beautyful, quiet rooms and a charming garden. A must!

We stayed at the pousada on a 'Golden Oldies' rate, which made our superior room fairly affordable. It was large and very well equipped, although the seating area was a bit cold and did not have enough light for reading. A lovely huge bathroom. Comfortable, huge beds. The building is lovely, as with many Portuguese pousadas, but must be a... More

Stayed here for Valentines night on a package. Check in was smooth and friendly, room was spacious and extremely clean. The bed had been decorated with rose petals, sparkling wine and strawberries had been provided which was a great touch. Bathroom was well supplied with toiletries and hot water. There is a minibar and a room safe. Although the building... More

We stayed for a few days in early january 2013 at this pousada. We have stayed a few times at Pousadas before and enjoy the combination of tranquility, history that goes with such places , quality of services and hospitality of staff . Pousada de Beja was no exception ! As you can expect at that time of the year... More
