I suppose being fully aware counts for a lot with this hotel, the rooms are small as it is the oldest hotel in the city and rooms never had en suites when they were built thus seem very tight, certainly the shower was hard to squeeze into, if you want comfort and have money and want modern facilities look elsewhere.... This hotel is the oldest hotel in Porto and sometimes shows its age. It has beautiful antiques and much character but some areas are worn and seem a little random in decor. Location is very central and easy to get to major attractions. Breakfast was included and was good but nothing spectacular. Beds were a bit hard and not a... More

We were disappointed in this hotel. It looks like it WAS grand at one point, but it has really lost its luster. We found the reception staff to be universally cold and unfriendly. It was really a strange introduction to Portugal, because we thought people would be really friendly, but not this group. The hotel breakfast is GREAT, that is... More

A fascinating hotel with lots of interesting memorabilia about. Very grand but welcoming. We got there very late but they opened up the bar so we could have a nightcap. Our room was on the small side but then we did not pay very much for it! Hotel nice and warm. Breakfast extensive. On edge of historic area so in... More

The rooms are not matching the staircase, breakfast room in terms of antique feeling and size, however, for the amount spent you cannot expect a large suite. Breakfast indeed plenty, fresh, decent. Good location, close to subway, walk to downtown, shopping street. If your room faces the (small) street you may can feel the vibe of Porto's student at 3am.... More

This is a gem of a hotel .The first wow was the location,. just off the main meeting area on a quite side street .Wow 2 came at the entrance to the hotel the name embossed on the marble step at the front door ,big doors leading into a lobby ,up the red carpet stairs with brass hand rails and... An extremely atomspheric hotel in a great location. Close to sights, restaurants and transport. Absolutely fantastic breakfast. A very reasonable price for the quality. The building is a fascinating old building and service was fine. Only criticism is that there was a charge to use the safe.

Although this hotel isn't a 5 star palace, it certainly has charm and personality and the location is great. There is no parking, but they offer a voucher for a lot down the street (15 Euros per 24 hours). The rooms are tiny, but you aren't supposed to spend a whole lot of time there anyway, so why do you... More

What do people expect for their money!. Centrally located, quirky, unique, character, excellent breakfast in a superb breakfast room. Plenty of hot water, clean sheets & towels every day.
