Very good central location in Uppsala, just across from the station. The staff were helpful and friendly. The unisex showers/toilet section is very well maintained and always absolutely clean. An excellent swedish breakfast - buffet with different kinds of bread, cheese, cold cuts, marmelade, waffles and boiled egg included (and available up to 11:00 !) The room is small, it's really a cabin about 2,30 x 1,60m and has no window. It's allright for just sleeping though and well explained on the booking page. The Swedish name is "Vandrarhem", meaning "hikers home", bear in mind!

We were a group of 18 making an overnight stay. Facilities clean and very comfortable and hotel ideally placed for the station. We arrived late at night but this was no problem. Breakfast (charged extra) was excellent and good value

Yeah for sweden its cheap, its nice and clean with a lot of facilities. Plenty of showers however only 5 toilets for 50 double rooms, thats far from enough. Rooms are very very small, and they put LED lights for every bulb and LED is fine if it has a decent output but you can't see nothing in these windowless rooms with these types of LED lights. Quite frustrating.

This review is for the hostel. We were a group of 4 in a private 4 bed room. Great location, nice staff, comfy beds and deceptively nice on the outside... On check in, I was told my balance had been paid in full and handed a receipt for my credit card payment, despite being told when booking we would have to pay the balance in cash and not asking my permission to charge the balance to my card. We were then told we need to rent sheets and towels - something that if made clear to begin with may have led us to choose another property as the price per night was now increased. The hallway of ship like doors led to a tiny dark box for four people where there is no light or fresh air... The room is far too small for four people, even for a hostel. I had had higher expectations of design savvy Sweden to have used the space as creatively. We have all been in Ikea stores! But we were very disappointed. There is no luggage space (unless you only have a slim overnight bag, then it will fit under the bed), nowhere to hang your rented damp towel, no ventilation, no temperature control (and even in April, it was mighty hot in there with four people in a space approx 3mx3m). The receptionist was kind enough to lend us a small fan, but I doubt there is one for each room. Honestly, I have seen larger prison cells in medieval gaols. And even those had small windows and bars that let air in. At least we were a group of friends so we could leave our stuff around in the room, otherwise our nightly cost would have increased again so we could rent lockers. The bathroom/showers are in a single mixed area which means all dressing etc must be done in the confines of the shower space. Due to the layout walking too and from the bathrooms means walking past many rooms and windows exposed to outside street, and there was no space to dress in the rooms anyway. The actual shower is a nice size with warm water, but only has 2 railings so requires skill to balance your clean clothes, (still damp) towel and toiletries. The tiny soap dish in the shower ups the skill level requirements of balancing if you want to use shampoo, conditioner and body wash. There is a lack of horizontal space to put things in the shower or bathroom and unfortunately some guys there who made us uncomfortable while doing makeup etc. which also needs to be done in the common bathroom area as there are no mirrors in the room. If this is all you can afford, it would be ok, the beds are comfy but beware: There are extra charges for everything and it may be worth looking at more expensive rooms to avoid hidden charges and have access to air. Places like this make me mad because some simple fixes could improve it somewhat but whoever makes those decisions clearly doesn’t care. Management should spend the night as a guest to see just what their guest experience... In addition to all this, a member of my groups smartphone was probably stolen in the hostel too... Photos are of a mixed 4 person dorm. …

I stayed in a dormitory home during my trip to Uppsala. The location of the hotel was perfect as it's very close by many local hot-spots. The staffs were enthusiastic, patient to help me change my room key again and again because I put it into my phone case by mistake. The bathroom was very spacious and it had great water system. The room was clean and comfy, yet doesn't have a small window so it was pretty packed if the room was full. They also had a kitchen downstairs with any kind of cooking tools you might need, but the flies could have been taken care better.

If your idea is to go alone and spend most of your time in the city, this is an inexpensive option. Rooms are small, simple, no windows in inner rooms but functional. Service is good and the building and facilities are well maintained and kept very clean. The breakfast is included and has a good variety of bread, fruit, vegetables and cold cuts.

Stayed one night in a double room with private WC. Room was ok, but nothing more, you could feel that the room, furniture and everything was well used for many years. It was two rather narrow single beds, not one double, so an unconvinient gap in the middle. Luckily we were not on our honeymoon, so sleeping was ok. Breakfast was surprisingly good for the cheap price we paid, all you would need, but of course no luxurious dishes. Cheese, ham etc were just basic, no big assortment, but you could at least make waffles if you wanted to.

Staying here is a bit like how flying with Ryanair used to be. You feel hard done by the first time you stay/fly and promise yourself not to do it again. However, since they offer the cheapest room/flight in town you mysteriously find yourself there a year later. This inevitably leads to some introspection and self criticism. Last time we stayed we where informed at the counter that bed linen cost extra which bumped the price from ca 55 to ca 70€ That is a high price for a dark cabinet which has a lot resemblance to the cheapest Viking line cabins, except for the latter actually being ok. All this would not annoy me so much if we had not been reassured at our last visit that the rent for bed linen was clearly said early in the booking process. We now know this is not completely true having done it a second time explicitly looking for this. The information is hidden 4 layers in to the advertisement on booking.com instead of being part of the main text or some other obvious place. In fact, the first time we stayed here the staff could not find the information themselves. We rate this place 1 mainly for the bed linen issue that could so easily be rectified with a sentence or two in the right place of the booking process. The dodgy rooms can be kind of forgiven due to the relatively low price for the room.…

We had stayed in Uppsala for two nights while Manchester United played Ajax and we absolutely loved it. One of the ladies at the front desk helped us with our reservation, gave us directions to the hotel from the airport - literally hooked everything up for us. The breakfast is quite decent for a hostel/hotel. The room was fairly very clean, and although small we had all the necessities, which is most important. The transport to and from Uppsala to Stockholm is quite easy and straightforward. ARN is actually closer to Uppsala than to Srtockholm by train!

Our family (with two teen children) only spent one day in Uppsala and were delighted! It's a charming small town with lots of geen areas. Hotel Vandrarhem Centralstation is unexpensive, good choice for a short stay in Uppsala. We recomend it for one or two nights. We would not choose it fo longer stay, since rooms are only suitable for sleeping - they are not intended for daytime leasure. They only have window on the inside hallway, but that is not really important if you only come to spend overnight. The common bathrooms are kept clean all the time. Hotel/hostel offers several cozy corners in common area to read or chat, a cafe where you can sit and work on you laptop, a kitchen to prepare and eat your own meal if you wished.
