I have never written into TripAdvisor before, but after staying for three nights at the Royal Hotel, I felt this hotel was unfairly reviewed. The room was spacious, the breakfasts were like a banquet and the atmosphere stylish. It's handy for the town centre & rail station, and you could do far worse!

Stayed here after a works do. The food was terrible, the shower ran cold but not hot. There was loud music and shouting etc well into the early hours. The bed was hard and uncomfortable , the sheet looked as like it hadn't been changed or else the washing machine used was faulty and the room was full of dust.... More

Despite some very harsh reviews i decided to book into the Royal. My first impressions were how very friendly and helpful the staff were. The Royal is not a palace but it is clean, warm and comfortable. We stayed here for a family wedding. No sleep due to constant loud noise. Food was OK. Room very poor, no hot water in shower, unable to open windows, no phone...the list goes on. Stay anywhere but here it is truly awful.

Stayed during mid week with colleagues. Shower didn't work, bathroom sink taps wobbly, black 'chiche' bedroom furniture covered in dust. No phone in room to ring down for assistance. I attended a family wedding at the royal the night was great the recption room was dressed to look fantastic. the staff are a credit never stopped smiling all night and so helpful one member mark was exceptional even minding a baby so the parents could go to the buffet .this young man made our night i hope the management...
