The first thing that strikes you when you pull up is the lack of paint and the broken shutters but the warm welcome at reception sets you at ease. The hotel is so achingly 70s it is almost cool. The room was clean and generally ok. The mattresses are very very bouncey, almost comically so. I didn't have any illusions... More

Great value for money, £39 for bed and breakfast. On arrivel staff were very friendly, hotel was a bit tired looking. Room could do with a lick of paint, but did have hair dryer,iron/trouser press (did work) and kettle in room (what more could you ask for at the price). I tried the swimming pool, sauna and steam room fab,... More

We stayed at this hotel on the way to Scotland. The room rate included a good breakfast, and the room was fine. It has everything you need and was good for a three star hotel. The downsides were that the public areas were dated and a bit worn and the restaurant was pricey for an evening meal. Staff were good... More

But after that the experience just gets worse and worse. A worn out sixties hotel seriously in need of refurbishment, carpets in public areas held together with gaffer tape, bedrooms with hard, cheap beds, mouldy bathrooms, threadbare and grubby carpets.

Had stayed at the hotel before a few years ago. It has gone downhill a bit decor ways but is still good value for money. The rooms are clean though basic. Had the best nights sleep ive ever had in a hotel. Bed was so comfy. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely. Buffet style so you can eat... More

Stayed here for one night on Thursday 10th May as a stop over before my friend's wedding at Gretna on the Friday. Everything needed was there in the room, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, comfy bed, bath or shower - both worked well. Good breakfast. We didn't use the leisure club as didn't have time, and couldn't believe that was... More

Stayed here Saturday 5th throught to Monday 7th May. We just wanted somewhere with DBB and at a reasonable price. We booked a Relaxation Break and that is just what we did. The bed was comfortable that I didn't want to get out of it. I agree that the rooms could do with up dating, but it didn't mar the... More

Just got home after 2 nights at the Hilltop. All in all I can only say what a thoroughly enjoyable time we had. We booked a wine and dine break through Late Rooms, and were thrilled with the quality and presentation of both food and wine. Staff were friendly and very eager to help. We found our room too warm... More

No hot water from shower on first night, complained to manager only to be told nothing they could do, following day lukewarm water then 5 minutes into a shower the water stopped completely!. The swimming pool had a filthy skim on top of it and when swimming your hands were all tangled up in others peoples hair. Feel sorry for... More
