I supported a group of learning disabled adults for afternoon tea at The Royal Hotel. It was a lovely experience in a beautiful envirnonment with attentive staff. The afternoon tea was first class with a good variety of sandwhiches and cakes all of which looked and tasted great. We couldnt eat all and the staff asked if we would like to take remaining... I booked the hotel for a get together of 16 old friends - eight couples. We arrived on the Friday and checked out on Sunday for a half board arrangement. This included dinner one evening in the main dining room and for the second evening in a room just for ourselves. All of us had a great time. The food... More

Took my sister and a group of 8 other girls for afternoon tea & it was absolutely wonderful! My sister felt like a princess & they catered to every allergy in the group & gave discount which was very unexpected. Great value for money, we all left very happy :) More

We didn't stay, just ate in the restaurant which was excellent. Great food served in a formal but relaxed ambiance. We will recommend this hotel to all our friends. More

Four of us, all adults had dinner this evening in the main dinning room. It is a grand and comfortable room, the food and service was excellent. Catch of the day was a beautiful Seabass fillet served with local vegetables and new potatoes, very fresh and tasty. The steak (also local) was said to be the Best that my companion... More

Eight of us had dinner last week in the Conservatory and we all agreed it was the best food of the three places we visited in the area. The service and staff were excellent and I would have no hesitation in recommending it. We were not staying at the hotel but chose it on recommendation by someone locally. More

I disagree with the person below who said "families beware", we have just returned from our first stay at the Royal (we have 2 young children) and I found it a lovely experience. The hotel staff were always friendly and helpful, from reception to the bar staff and restaurant staff. The hotel offers a children's High Tea which our children... More

Just returned from our first stay at The Royal and am very glad to be home. The location of the hotel is excellent and the building is gorgeous but unfortunately the service was awful. Within ten minutes of entering the rather stuffy dining room I was asked rudely by the head waitress to, "Keep the kids noise down a bit"-... More

Running a hotel is a balancing act — this requires skill and judgement. In this particular case the children were using rather loud gaming consoles in our 2 AA Rosette dining room which caused issues for other guests trying to enjoy their evening meal. The Head Waitress received complaints and therefore politely asked for the volume to be turned down.... More

Arrived at the Royal to find this hotel did not live up to the reputation on Trip Advisor. It is not a young persons hotel and came across as a retirement home. The reception process was poor and were not asked when we wanted dinner but told when we could have it... We were told we should have per booked,... More

It is very difficult to live up to a reputation in ten minutes and I think that the crux of this review is that our hotel was not to this couple’s liking. I acknowledge that taste is a subjective matter and that’s why our website has a gallery. However I do understand that the couple, for their own personal reasons,... More
