This hotel could do with some renovation, although some improvements have been made (double glazing, so excellent insulation). The atmosphere was laid back and friendly. When we arrived, the receptionist gave us 3 room keys, so that we could choose which room we preferred! She also made us a list of places to see and good shops in town. The... More

Some parts of previous reviews are correct. This hotel is indeed a picture of faded French splendour. The public areas are a pure time capsule - perfectly in tune traditional French furniture and furnishings, classic tiling on the floors and original features everywhere. The bedrooms also have traditional furnishings and are large with high ceilings. Which means that there is... More

This is a beautiful old hotel with a great deal of history and well situated in a convenient part of Macon with free parking. On the other hand, it is, as other reviewers have mentioned, fallen on hard times. The lobby is nicely maintained and there is an elevator, but the rooms themselves are rather shabby and in various states... More

As with others, seemed like an ideal place to stop off on my way to Italy. Room smelt (probably insecticide). On return from restaurant, at about 11.00pm, found we had left kid's medicine in the car, but we were refused access to car park! If so worried that we might break into other cars, perhaps they could have escorted us.... More

The negative reviews about this place are very polite in that it is a truly appauling hotel. On arrival the lady behind the desk was generally rude and surly (I do speak French and the attitude was apparent in both languages) and threw the keys at us. The building is very grand but totally delapidated and has not seen any... More

A stunning old building with a rich history but such a pity that it is so neglected. Even the most basic of things aren't maintained. If you're happy to put up with taps that hang from their fixtures, broken bathroom fittings, windows that can't open because the curtain rails are hanging from their fittings and barely warm water and heating... This hotel is a time capsule, its decor and furnishings seemingly unchanged for decades, the sign near the front desk reminding guests of those "good old days" when the likes of Marie Princess of Greece, Roger Vadim, the Aga Khan, Salvador Dali, and Peter Townsend graced its lobby. And just like any "grand old dame", the obvious signs of aging... More

I stayed for 3 nights and was very happy with my room, which was at the rear of the hotel as requested, so there was no problem with traffic noise. It was spacious and high-ceilinged, as was the breakfast room, where it was a pleasure to take breakfast, although it was strictly continental (bread and croissants - no yoghurts, cheese,... More

As soon as we pulled up I knew we had made a mistake with this one, thankfully we only stayed the one night although that was only because we had had such a long drive from Italy. Hotel owner could not speak a word of English, carpets and stairs leading up to the room were in need of a major... More

Stayed here for a one-night stop-over. When we pulled up we were a bit concerned as it is on a busy main road so we asked to view the room first. The guy on the desk was very obliging and handed us the keys to two different rooms to take a look at. Both had high ceilings, white country-cottage style... More
