It must have been just us then! The room (number 3) was cramped, tired and sporting old and stained furniture. The bathroom had mould and became drenched when used for the shower. Apart from that, the bedding was clean and the view of the road wonderful. Due to vision impairment, access for us via the dark narrow corridors and various... More

That is disappointing. The only reason given to us was that one of the guests had quite a severe vision impairment that meant he needed a particularly well lit place to stay, otherwise everything else during the stay had been satisfactory. Our pub is certainly not dark, but cosy as you would expect a 16th century pub to be. The... More

We spent three nights at the Chequers while touring the Peak District recently. We'd tried to book somewhere in Bakewell but everywhere seemed to be full, but we ended up pleased we came to the Chequers. The location was perfect, only a few minutes from Chatsworth and a short drive from all the main places of interest. The staff were... More

The Chequers is a lovely old country pub with creaky uneven floors and loads of character. The food is *****excellent - more high class restaurant than pub grub. Not that cheap but worth every penny. The room was comfy and clean and the staff very helpful. Excellent breakfast too which was included in the room price. Would recommend wholeheartedly.

Just returned from three nights at the Chequers. It was a great place with a very comfortable room. The staff were really friendly and the food was amazing. Breakfast kept us going until evening dinner! Will certainly go again.

An old favourite of ours and which we recently revisited. An excellent menu and good service - prices may seem a little on the high side but you are paying for quality food. Most enjoyable. If you are eating in the evening it is wise to book, especially at weekends and in the holiday seasons.

We had a lovely room, it was clean comfortable and had the most comprehensive tea tray I have had in a long time. The shower was amazingly powerful! All the staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. the only down side was there was no one on site over night, I would not have stayed here if... More

We are chesterfield people and as such we eat out quite a lot around the area. This is the first time we have been here and it will probably be the last. I see some of the other reviewers have put that it is a tad expensive, but you get what you pay for. I am afraid I don't agree.... More

I have visited The Chequers Inn on many occasions. Today I went for lunch with a friend. We both had an excellent meal sat by the log burner. My friend had never been before and was very impressed. A great atmosphere and a fab place to call for a half way break and treat when out on a walk in... More

Amazing food, all fresh and local produce. Staff are friendly. Room was lovely and big, with a massive bathroom and amazing bath tub and seperate shower cubical. After reading some reviews on here I can see things did need freshening up - bit of paint here and there, slight bit of damp, creeky floorboards, but all adds to character. Only... More

Passed here many times and finally paid a visit today! Wonderful lunch. Local produce used. Excellent presentation and tasted delicious! Hubby had a local beer and said it was excellent too! Staff very helpful, friendly and professional.
