My wife and I,and indeed our children too have enjoyed our stay at the Maltings for the past ten years.We have always been warmly welcomed by the proprietor,Maeve,and have certainly been impressed by the quality of the food.The accommodation is clean and most comfortable.Put simply if you intend touring in Ireland then The Maltings Birr is ideal for you.

Stayed for one night only in low season (november 2012) and I think we were the only guests. The house where a bit chilly with stone walls and singleglass windows, but thick duvets and a few Paddys.. No problems! The river view from my room and from the breakfast room is worth a lot and the food was really ok.... More

We were greeted with friendly informality and instantly felt at home in this lovely spot by the river. Our room was spacious and comfortable and quiet. Breakfast with a view of fish having theirs, was delicious. Birr castle gardens, right next door, is a beautiful and fascinating place. We loved every minute of our stay.

What a wonderful getaway! We loved staying in a historic building, and the fact that the river was right beside us was a lovely bonus! The Maltings is an impressive building situated on the river. Our room was spacious and very clean with an amazing view of the river. Large rooms, very comfortable and hospitable (as we've found in Ireland generally). The breakfast is incredible! It could be described as "all day" - not that it is served all day, but it LASTS all day! You will not be disappointed staying here.

A wonderful "find" for us. Larger clean rooms,with special breakfasts -- and gracious, helpful hosts. A special stay for us = 3 nights.
