Casa Loma was very welcoming and had lots of rooms to choose from (including hammocks). The view is pretty spectacular, particularly at sunset. Great location with plenty of stuff to do nearby. They also offer a communal dinner every night which gives it a really nice friendly feel. The Mosquitos are truly a pain, even with the mosquito nets provided... More

This is a great hostel with a wonderful staff and great views of the surrounding hills and the city of Santa Marta. The somewhat steep uphill climb to the hostel is worth the excellent setting above the small village of Minca. Peaceful and relaxing.

Easily one of the most special spots I've visited in my travels to South America. Part of me doesn't want to recommend it, as it's the kind of place you wouldn't want to see spoiled. Minca is accessible by collectivo from Santa Marta, after which you need to hike up the steep hill to the hostel. Don't let this discourage... More

My husband and I came the day before, without our pack to check it out and fell in love with this hostel. The next day, we called the hostel and someone came down to help us bring our pack up. We stayed three nights and loved the view, people we met and the yummy food they serve. Jay, one of... More

Casa loma is tucked away in the hills and if you are up for a bit of a hike to get there it's worth it! Sunrise and sunset each morning, friendly relaxed hosts and simple but comfortable rooms. Great local home cooked food each day for a decent rate- Bring snacks and anything you need from the city as its... More

This is the type of place you want to find while traveling and I almost hope ppl don't in some ways as I'd hate to see it get spoiled. An unreal view, fantastic common space, and really great chill ppl that are supposed to be what hostels are all abt. If they had some wifi (it's a long walk up... More

It's a hell of a hike to the top so make reservations before hiking to the top! We saw many people get turned away because they were full. They are a true rural hostel, but with a few conveniences. You can rent a hammock, a basic cabin, or bring a tent. They are currently in the process of adding a... More

Do not listen to Mr. Lonely Planet Guide guy when he writes "not much to do in Minca". I know he didn't do the nocturnal "eagle-bat" cave indiana jones experience in Rio Claro, and I know he didn't spend ten minutes in Minca, a beautiful place with lots to do and lots to love! Um, to start...the view???? Amazing! Whatever,... More

Nestled atop a beautiful hillside in the neat town of Minca, Casa Loma feels like a sanctuary with outstanding views of the Santa Marta mountains and its city. Following the handmade (from local trees!) railing up its inviting path leads you to an open air treehouse-feeling two story hut filled with cozy and colorful hammocks, rocking chairs, books, handmade light... Casa Loma is a great place to get away from the hustle, hawkers and heat of Santa Marta. It's just a short distance away from the city of Santa Marta (although you should give yourself at least an hour to get here by Collectivo) but a world away. My wife and I stayed here as part of our travels for... More
