I guess coming from a totally different tropical world, Kirkenes is the closest to a wintery wonderland for us. Landing in a the airport amidst a land of white, we quickly took the airport bus to Thon hotel where receptionist was friendly and helpful to let us store luggage while we waited for Snowhotel driver who was jovial and humorous... We visited the Kirkenes Snow Hotel on an excursion from our cruise ship. As it is set in a reindeer park I thought it would be a little further out of town than it is. However the experience will remain with is for years. It is basically a huge igloo which they build every year - each year slightly different.... More

A great place to visit. I was really interested in how they constructed it and the team who'd 'decorated' (ie sculpture and carve pictures into the snow walls) had done an excellent job. The food in the restaurant was really great & they kept the warm areas superbly warm which was very welcome after the chilly rooms. The staff wake... More

I found the location to be a bit disappointing, I expected, it to be more remote, not 300m from the main road. I felt that the overall experience was too commercialized. I also expected to socialize a little more especially as you arrive. We were shown to our rooms within 5 mins of entering. Not recommend for anyone who suffered... More

My partner booked this as the end to a Hurtigruten cruise for my 50th birthday. I have spent time in the outdoors so I was realistic about what to expect. Some that were in our party clearly thought that they were in for something different, and that they would not actually be sleeping in the Snow Hotel! Staff were great,... More

We stayed here during our christmas holidays. It was simply perfect. Make sure you have good thermal underwear ( ours was pure Merino wool) and we were comfortable at all times. We had wonderful food in the tent, drove the huskies and saw the Northern lights. The staff are wonderful people and they make you feel at home without too... More

Really enjoyed a night at the Kirkenes snowhotel. The staff were lovely and friendly, and we had a delicious meal of reindeer sausages and local salmon before worming our way into polar sleeping bags. Talk about snug! I slept really well and was glad I'd set my alarm, or I wouldn't have had time to try out the sauna before... More

This hotel is really worth a visit but would HATE to actually stay here. A visit entry is 100k or about $20US but it's certainly worth a look. There's no way i'd sleep here though, needless to say - its freezing in there. More

A great experience! Completely different from what you have ever experienced. Do not expect an on-suite bathroom because it is not part of the experience! Beds are very comfortable with thick mattresses. The sleeping bags cater for up to -30 degrees so you will not be cold. They also provide thick socks, gloves and beanies to sleep in. Take an... More
