After having spent many weeks in the heat/mugginess of Sabah, It was exquisite to walk into a jungle setting that has been so brilliantly allowed to thrive by owner, Tom Hewitt. Lupa Masa is a retreat that offers an exceptional experience because it has not been embellished. I found the clear, cold river and waterfall such a beautiful relief..... sleeping in... More

If you want a real jungle experience, or somewhere to step off the world for a bit and unwind, this place will suit you down to the ground. It's not for the faint hearted, it's a good half hour walk from Poring, partly along a dusty road, and partly through the hot sweaty jungle. Once you get there it's worth... More

If you want a true jungle adventure then this is the place for you. We stayed here 2 nights and believe me it is not for the faint of heart. Mike was our guide and does not sugar coat anything. The adventure starts in Poriing where you unpack your large pack into a smaller pack for your 30 minute hike... More

This is a truly relaxing place to unplug and unwind. You sleep in stretcher hammocks with the sounds of the jungle to send you to sleep. Night walks are great for spotting wildlife but the highlight is the ice cold river which runs past the camp - it's the best way to wake up in the morning. Bring some friends... More

I first came to Lupa Masa before it was built and then have visited a couple of times over the past year--it is beautiful. The perfect place to get away for a couple of days and see the wildlife/insects/swim in rivers/walk to waterfalls and enjoy being in the outdoors. The accommodation is basic but that makes you feel like you... More

Lupa masa is a fantastic idea. Set a 30 minute walk through dense jungle from poring. The accommodation and food was very basic (the water and hydroelectric were temporerally broken when we were there). But how often do you get the opportunity to be so isolated in such a spectacular place? There was the opportunity to see plenty of wild... More

Stayed for 5 nights at the Lupa Masa Ecolodge. What a fantastic place! A 40 minute walk from the small village of Poring, this lodge is located in the forks of two clear creeks and against the Kinabalu National Park boundary. Chalets are rustic, open on all sides, with low sloping roofs made of palm leaves and bamboo. The beds... More

I spent some very memorable three nights at Tom’s Eco camp. When my group arrived there after dusk on the first night our torches lit up the many little eyes of a variety of nocturnal insect species, strange animal noises and sweet, flowery odours greeted us, making it appear as if we had just entered a different world. After a... More

I spent two wonderful nights in the Eco Camp. Part of its charm is that it's a 30 minute walk from Poring to get there so you really are off the beaten track and in the heart of the rain forest. Tom Hewitt who owns/runs the camp has managed to harness the river for hydro power and this really is... More

Lupa Masa is a haven for birds, mamals and thousands of weird and wonderful insects including spectaculor butteflies and fire flies. Seasonally on-site there are blooms of the largest flower in the world - the Rafflesia.
