we have been there only for 1 night but the impression was very good. nice building, big rooms (ask for those in the corner). dinner was ok (continental food). service was good and people really friendly but English level was basic.

This is in the mountains at about a 9000 foot elevation. The rooms are very basic and the electricity can be spotty. Bring flashlights and or head band reading lights. The heat in the rooms is provided by wood burning stoves which need to be fad at least once during the night. The rooms are clean and most have wonderful... More

Located in the beautiful Phobjikha Valley, the Dewachen is impressive when compared to any Bhutanese hotel, but in this remote valley it dominates. It is located just high enough up the hillside so that its large rooms overlook the scenery below. Our room had a separate sitting area with views in two directions. It had a real king bed, not... Our room was a decent size, and had a stove, which unfortunately kept going out.Nevertheless the room was warm and we were given a hot water bottle each, which made the beds cozy. The bathroom was clean ,and there was plenty of hot water for showers. the evening buffet was poor, as was breakfast next morning. a very attractive fairly new property,in... After the driver making many (bumpy) twists and turns in the mountains my friend and I finally found ourselves in the Phobijikha Valley. We were immediately stunned to see a beautifully-decorated Bhutanese structure hidden there and learnt from the guide it was Dewachen Hotel we were going to check in (on 1 April 2012). The location makes it such a... More

The hotel is beautiful and I think the problem is on our side rather than theirs. We went there in December. I don't know the temperature since no one in Bhutan seems to have thermometer. It's just very cold. The room was clean, the bed was comfy, and hot water in the shower worked well. We had one (less than... More

We stayed here for one night. What a lovely surprise. We asked for a king-sized bedroom and were pleased with the size of the room and the windows on three walls. The room was large, but very cozy, especially with the wood-burning stove. However, it struggled to keep the room warm. Underfloor heating was not installed (despite the controls on... More

I stayed in this hotel few times as it's only option in it's class in the area. The location is excellent and so are the rooms. These are large and clean with a unique feeling. Heating with old fashioned stoves (which would be hardly certified safe in the West), schedule for hot water and electricity is not a problem. Dining... More

The Dewachen is a lovely rather large hotel in the Phobjikha Valley - however it is often full. Directly below it is Yo-Lo-Koe Guesthouse. Brand new with just 8 rooms. It is spotlessly clean, your own hotwater tank! and in room fireplace with enough wood to keep you warm all night. Meals were very good and being small it is... More

We spent a night here on a two week tour across Bhutan. The staff could not do enough to make us feel welcome. The food was superb and thoroughly Bhutanese. Our room was spacious and modern, full of accents highlighting the whole property's local character. Not luxurious, just cosily authentic. We visited in February and it got cold at night... More
