Stayed for a night after hiking on the Beara Peninsula. Neal ,the owner, met up at the door with a hardy "Dia Gwitch" ( spelling? ). Setting was gorgeous. Hotel is an older place, but well maintained. Onsite restaurant serves delicious food ( 20-25 euros for 2-3 courses ). Great hiking right outside the door. Also, there is a lake... More

This hotel / restaurant is situated on the edge of a lake and overlooks a very pretty small Church, which is a popular destination for artists. The hotel is quite old but well appointed and the dining room gives a warm ambience. The Sunday lunch menu catered for most tastes and was done on a fixed price basic with a... More

Our family recently booked the entire hotel for a wedding. The hotel had just opened in April after having been closed for the winter. There were about 50 of us, from Ireland, France, and the U.S. We could not have had a better experience. Most of us stayed the night before the wedding as well as the night of the... More

A beautiful setting, and so untouched one might get the idea it was a lonely place. Never - there was plenty of company when you wanted it, loads of visitors from all corners including regular stoppers by. The animals were lovely to watch, and as it was spring we got to see new lambs, goats, and whatever else might be... More

We've stayed at this family-run hotel several times since 1999. The hotel has been upgraded since our first visit and gets better each time we visit. It's becoming one of our must-stay places in Ireland. The setting is absolutely magical, the food first class, and the staff friendly and attentive. The rooms are clean and tastefully decorated. The bathrooms are... More

What a beautiful spot! Right on the lake, views of mountains, cute little island with a mini church. Right near the Gougane forest where you can hike following the waterfall. Our room was fine, cozy with a view of the lake. The only down side is there is only 1 restaurant attached to the hotel so you have to eat... More

I stayed at the Gougane Barra Hotel for one night in August 2012 at the end of a Vagabond tour of Ireland. It would be nice to say that Vagabond saved the best hotel experience for last, but in my view the accommodation fell just a bit short of being exceptional. My main complaint was with the bathroom in my... More

Set on a beautiful lake and shrine, the hotel does not disappoint. The tranquility of the surroundings helped make a tired traveler relax. There are plenty of walking trails and photo opportunities. Visit the church and graveyard. The hotel overlooks the lake and many rooms have a lake view. The rooms are a bit small, but provide all the amenities... More

Set at the edge of the wildly beautiful Gougane Barra National Park is the charming and dignified comfort of the Gougane Barra Hotel. Here it is easy to imagine yourself at your own lakeside country estate with your own household staff and superb chef. A truly splendid experience that mixes fine dining, relaxation, and quiet, scenic beauty. Owners Neil and... More
