Pretty chilled out place, great for checking out palenque ruins. there's actually a few different hostels/cabanas there and when you arrive you can check them all out before paying. We stayed in Jaguar in a little hut. Don't be surprised to find many insects etc in the room but its in the middle of the jungle, it is to be... More

El Panchan is in the jungle. You hear howler monkeys, and other jungle sounds. It is a magical place to stay. Margaret and Eds is much more up-market than I thought it would be. Some of the cabanas in El Panchan are pretty rustic, but Margaret and Ed's is really very nice - the rooms are well decorated. we had... More

The staff I found very friendly and helpful, the rooms average and no cause to complain, but you're in the jungle... Howling monkeys woke us at 5am and, time to check your gear. It sounds obvious, but just keep checking your clothing and any camping gear, whilst I do this as a matter of habit after meeting some delicious insect... More

Don't eat at the resturant inside El Panchan if you don't want to get food poisoning - but this is the only place to eat if you stay here! It's a taxi ride into town to eat at other places. I was in a group of 9 and 7 of us got sick from the food here. One went to... More

It's good, very good....It's next to the entrance of the park for the ruins (5km to the actual ruins...) You get lots of choche for all budgets in the complex (el panchan is NOT an hostel, it's a group of hostels and restaurants), to get into palenque town it's 5mins and 10 pesos of minibus (only in daylight hours) and... When I came to the reception, two young ladies were there, and were very bored and apperantly nerved, that they had to work now and show me a room. The room one of them showed me was located next to a water pump and thatfore very loud. Furthermore the was dirty and ugly and in a extremly bad condition. The... More

Having visited El Panchan last year and really enjoying the atmosphere, my husband and I decided to come here again on our recent Mexico trip (late January 2012). I have to say that this time around, we really didn't enjoy our stay that much. We stayed at Margarita & Ed's again, which was lovely (very, very clean - unlike many... More

We were quite excited to come into the jungle and did not know what to expect in the cabins. I was okay with the basic infrastructure but was totally appalled at the condition of the dirty shower in a filthy cement stall. In addition, when I returned from a hike, there was no hot water running for us as the... More

We came late to Palenque, and there was no place in Margarita and Ed's hotel, so we crossed the "street" and came to El Panchan. The Cabin was nice, with big room, good toilets, and big bed. No air condtion yet and no windows, just nets against the masquitos and a curtain. But with a big wentilator or the ceiling.... More
