YHA Brisbane City offers guests state of the art facilities and an Australian experience under one roof! Centrally located and close to all the tourist hot spots, this hostel offers roof top swimming pool with views of the city and Brisbane River, games room with Nintendo Wii, free Wifi Hot Spot (Wifi Plus also available), indoor and outdoor dining, secure parking and nightly entertainment. We also have a fantastic tour desk where you can book only the best activities and tours and not even leave the hostel! We are only 5 minutes walk from Suncorp Stadium for all of the major sporting events. The hostel has a mix of multishare, private twin/double rooms and family rooms all available with en-suites. YHA Brisbane City is quite simply the best budget accommodation in Brisbane no matter what your reason for travel.
Our stay at Brisbane YHA was a mixed one. We had a private room which was really lovely however the facilities at this hostel really let it down. The kitchen was often very unclean despite closing between 2-3 for deep cleaning. Throughout our stay there were multiple hobs, fridges and sinks out of order which meant the facilities that were working were cramped. Also often birds in the kitchen which was a bit of a hygiene concern. The laundry room was another HUGE disappointment. Multiple machines out of order, and those that were working (3 washers and 2 dryers) were being used all day by housekeeping? It took us around 8 hours to wash and dry one load of laundry. I’d also add that despite advertising a 24hr reception online, this isn’t really the case. We arrived around midnight and had difficulties entering the building as reception was closed but were eventually let in by another guest. On the positive side, the WiFi is good and the rooftop pool and bar were also very nice. The location is also convenient with good transport links. Our room was clean & spacious with complimentary toiletries and tea making facilities.…

Absolutely loved staying here. Myself and my husband stayed here for 2 night for NYE. The staff were so friendly and helpful, especially Luke who we had the pleasure of helping us many times! He is super chatty and always offers advice for places to eat/drink/go. He always makes the effort to say hi which goes along way :) We didn't use the kitchen but it looked massive- lots of room for multiple people to cook at once unlike other hostels! We stayed in a private room which had a river view and it was lovely! Only thing I would say is the bathroom in our room wasn’t too clean, and the floors are abit dirty and the drains don’t smell great- but to be honest for what you pay for and the service you receive from staff, you can look past the bathroom not being perfect. Shower is nice and bed is comfy too. TV in the room works great with Netflix too. Will defo stay again!! Will defo be staying again…

Hi, Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at Brisbane City YHA. We are so glad that you loved our staff, especially Luke. Luke is a great employee, and he does take the extra mile to help our guest. Thank you for bringing the cleanliness issue to our attention, we are always open to negative feedback, which will help us learn from our mistake, to improve the guest experience. Thank you again for your review and we hope to see you again soon. Regards, Nicholas N - Shift Manager

Nice hostel with amazing rooftop bar! Great communal feel with daily events. However was poorly maintained for a YHA. Several hobs in kitchen didn’t work and just 2 washing machines not out of service for whole place. I was in a lower bunk in shared dorm which was great… until I looked up and saw the black mould on the mattress above. I reported to reception but nothing was done and no apology. I reported again on check out and they said they didn’t know anything about it, and then asked me to pay 10$ to store my luggage! There are several other hostels on same road so go to one of those.

Very clean, good location but due to lack of staffing the events in the evening were cancelled and the rooftop bar was closed. Couldn’t bring our own alcohol onto the rooftop area because they are licensed. Spoilt the reason why we booked the place. Nice view if we could have utilised it properly and would have been easier to stomach if told when checking in rather than planning our day around coming back and enjoying the sunset on the roof with a drink.

Thank you very much for your review. Correct, we are in fact a licenced venue and do have signage at reception stating this. We will look at making this more prominent. Agree, the view is amazing! We appreciate the time you've taken to supply some valuable feedback. We hope to see you again! Thanks, YHA

What a fab place for travelers of all ages. Plenty of different areas to hang out and relax, having a pool was a big plus and plenty of loungers about. Kitchen a good size too, pay 10 dollar deposit for your own crockery/cutlery which is good. Location good for trains and buses, and easy walk to centre or jump on a scooter. Definitely would stay there again

Stayed here for 8 nights the good thing is here that I stayed for the full 8 nights in 1 room which did not happen in Sydney YHA. Stayed in a 3 bedroom dormitory which was clean and OK. Place is good if you're on a bargain budget. Would definitely come back to stay here again if returning to Brisbane.

Pros: close to train station and supermarket Nice view from the top Lots of food storage areas Bed was okay Cons: showers smelled like urine all the time? Showers were cold and literally no water came out of them?? I’d say the sink tap had better pressure than the shower Birds in the kitchen? Staff slowly made their way up to try remove them. Not very social. Most people there lived there for a while and were quite rude. Wouldn’t recommend for a solo traveller. For some reason the staff were always extremely stressed out and acted strange. When checking in the woman asked if we had ever stayed with YHA before and we said no…. She was persistent that we did and kept going on about how the system said we have. We just agreed then so we could hurry up with the process?? What on earth was that about I have no idea. Later that evening I went to get a fizzy drink from the fridge and I stood at the reception and the receptionist said to me “what do you want I’m extremely busy here”…. Bit of an odd way to treat someone.…

Thank you very much for staying with us, Hannah. We are located in a great location, you're right. And the view is well worth the trip to level 5! Hot water can take a little while to reach you as the building is so big. Yes, chasing pigeons out can be a fun exercise! But we have put deterrents in place for them now. There are aspects mentioned in your review we would love to change your mind about. We do appreciate your review and hope to see you again! Cheers, YHA

My overall stay was great, although the location is a little bit away from Brisbane CBD. There is a slight uphill walk going to the hostel, which may be difficult for those with mobility concerns. Inside the hostel the rooms and toilets are clean, just like other YHA hostels I have been in around Australia. There is free wifi too. and some facilities for use like the kitchen and the pool. A slight concern is that the air conditioning is not centralized, so it might be difficult for those like me who like air conditioning, and those who don't (like one of my roommates). I do suggest turning on the air conditioning since insects fly through the windows at night. Another thing I appreciated was the free sunscreen station near the entrance since I usually forget to apply sunscreen! It was a good reminder, especially in sunny and hot Brisbane!…

Recommend if you are looking for a clean and quality place to stay and are a budget traveller. This yha has a very high standard compared to others. It is more like a youth hotel with bunk beds rather than a backpackers place. You also meet travellers of all ages, families and youth groups around the place. The rooms are super tidy and serviced daily, spacious luggage lockers that fit a large suitcase (fantastic!) and are light filled with aircon or windows to be opened. The kitchen is very big, nice rooftop terrace with city views and pool area. Tv lounge and soon it’s own co working hub which I think is a great addition to the concept. Free luggage storage for guests and friendly and helpful staff.

Good location close to station, shared bathroom clean and not too busy. But...tiny dorm room, no space for luggage. Only power point is inside locker. Tables inside sticky and filthy, outside covered in bird poo. Kitchen clean enough but not many saucepans, no lids. Fridges jam packed. Kitchen closed at 2pm (check in time) and I was told off for trying to put my things in the fridge when I arrived at 2. TV room outright depressing, soulless and empty. Kitchen very noisy and open balcony style meant noise travels down corridor late at night, plus train track noise early morning meant not good sleep. Staff were not rude but certainly not friendly or helpful, I asked about Koala sanctuary and was told by the girl she is too busy to go to places like that so no advice on travel there!…
