We often stay here, with our family and find it clean and friendly, the rooms are a bit tired, but is good value for Townsville and located in a good central location.
First of all the room smelt terrible, a mix of old food and smoke is ingrained to everything.
The room is a good size but everything is very outdated and run down.
I went to a resturant up the road becasue when i was seated in their resturant in the lobby i waited for 30 minutes and still had no...

This place is really dated, the whole place seemed pretty run down and my room smelt like it had 20 years worth of smokers in it - light through the windows and noisy, bathroom and shower poor, not many highlights really, there is a lot better options on the same street.
Thanks for your feedback. You may have noted in a few of the past reviews that the hotel was heading for refurbishment and in the review immediately before yours that it had actually begun. Works will continue for the next 12 weeks including in-room and guest corridor paint, carpet, soft furnishings, lighting and upholstery. The lobby and restaurant will follow...

Stayed her for two night as I knew it was in teh centre of Palmer St and expected that having the Rydges Name would be quite nice.
Well I was wrong, I was put in one of the unrefurbished rooms and it definetley nees it. It is very tired and is very old fashioned in terms on its furniture and...

Thank you for acknowledging the refurbishment, at the time of your stay (if similar to review date) only 5 rooms would have been completed so I do apologise that we had to 'put' you in an un-refurbished room. Works as mentioned on hotel signage, 3rd party websites and on our own websites is from 8am till 5pm. We're even more...

We stayed for one night, and spent very little time at the hotel. Staff were firendly, rooms were clean and comfortable, the bathroom could do with a re vamp though. We all enjoyed the breakfast and they start early on Sundays which was good for us as we had an early sporting commitment
We often have guests who are 'out and about' for the best part of their stay, the location of the hotel on Palmer st certainly lends itself to making the most of Townsville and the fantastic weather we have up here April through October.
The restaurant will be getting a significant facelift following the rooms and breakfast will be a...

I just had a one night stay for business. Staff were friendly and helpful, including the restaurant staff. Rooms are very tired, but have all the essentials required. Good to see a refurbishment underway, and then it might morph into a very nice hotel. And yes .. the beds & pillows are very comfy
Thanks for your feedback, our first rooms came back on line Monday (21/5). I think your very right, the rooms while dated are still very comfortable and appointed with all the necessary amenities for a pleasant stay. We're looking forward to seeing our guests thoughts on the refurbishment changes, I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised!
Cheers,
Rob.

I enjoyed my stay at Rydges, Townsville. The buffet breakfast was absolutely 'superb', and the beds were very comfy! Breakfast though, would have to be the highlight for me. The food I could not find fault with, whatsoever. The one thing I did find unique about breakfast was the 'honey'! They had a slab of REAL honeycomb, which slowly dripped...

You have certainly tipped to features which we think we do very well, I'm glad you enjoyed you stay. As great as breakfast is we are always looking to improve. There will be a new breakfast concept rolled out with the restaurant refurbishment which we are very excited about. Of course the honey will be staying!
Cheers,
Rob.

Don't waste your time staying here.
We have just returned from a fantastic Australian holiday and stayed in Townsville for a one night stopover.
We booked the apartments for our family of 4. Firstly our room overlooked 3 neighbouring properties that were grotty and over grown. At least we didn't need to sit on the balcony for the view.
The...

I hope the detailed correspondence from our manager went some way to answering each of your comments. We are quite pedantic with checking credit cards, we find it is a good way to ensure we avoid fraudulent transactions, hence why after you book online without verification we check at check in and again at check out just in case. Apologies...

I like staying at the Rydges chain and I have become used to a range of hotels from great to....well maybe not. The southbank hotel is in a good location but needs a refurb. Its only redeeming feature was that I had the best nights sleep ever. The bed was amazingly comfortable. On that alone I will probably go back...

Your exactly right, time for a major refurb. It kicks off May 13 starting with guest rooms and corridors! Restaurant will follow on from there. We're glad you enjoyed your nights sleep, Rydges Dream Beds were the first stage of refurbishment works last year. I will pass your comments on to our staff at the desk, thank you for your...

We were quoted a rate and then charged a different rate ("because the hotel was full") We did not get our quote in writing because the "staff was new and did not know the process"
Our word was not accepted even though we could have got a lower rate online
Ensure that you get what you are quoted.
The rooms...

As was discussed with you at length by our Rooms Division Manager, there was no change in the rate from what was originally booked by your colleague to that you were charged at the time of check out. It was unfortunate that your 'goods' were damaged while your bathroom was being serviced, its disappointing that you didn't mention that in...
