Expect the roomtemperature to follow the outdoor temperature. The room was not heated, and it was freezing cold. I caught a cold which ruined the last part of my trip. Further more the building is old and not well kept! I will not recommend this place, even for the cheap backpacker.

Not a bad place - enjoyed my stay here over April. Got myself a mixed dorm and met people on the same wavelength who were up for exploring some of Hobart's watering holes. Walk down to Salamanca was easy. Without a bar on site, made it difficult to meet other guests.

We've stayed in this hostel for 2 nights in a private double room. Although the staff is amazing (super friendly and helpfull) the accomodation is really terrible. We were in room 314 and it's terribly noisy. Don't go here if you're after a good sleep. The showers and bathrooms desperately need a makeover as well.

The people running Central City Backpackers (CCB) were very nice folks, but they were also incredibly disorganized. We made a booking to stay from December 7th - February 1st, back in November. But when we got there, we were told that the woman who booked us should never have done it, and that a room was only available until December... More

We had a private double room. Only thing inside was the bed. The room was really run-down and not clean. Only good thing about it was the location. Not worth what we paid for it, next time we would pay a bit more and stay somewhere else.

I stayed here for 3 nights. There was a mistake in booking (no fault of mine) and I was given one of the night free. I have to say they did put on effort. The place itself is just run down. I had a hard time getting the shower right and some of the taps do not work. The kitchen... More

I make short visits to Hobart often, and have shopped around a bit for places to stay. Central City was/is not the best advertised, so I tried some of the budget hotels as well as all the other backpackers before I finally decided to have a look here. I have not chosen to stay anywhere else since. Located truly centrally,... More

Conviently VERY central location, only a few blocks from harbour and Salamanca. The staff was very friendly and helpful, rooms, bathrooms and kitchen ok. Free wifi, but with some restrictions (it kicks you out every 15-30mins, which is a bit annoying). Arriving afterhours (after8pm) was possible with prebooking and entrance code.

Extremely centrally located (as the name suggests) it is bizarrely accessed through the ground floor of a small shopping mall, up the stairs through the first floor, some sort of soliticors firm, and on the second floor. On arrival I was met by the girl/lady who ran the place. She was very friendly and helpful. Room was very basic and... More

My partner and I are mature travellers and had booked into Central City the night before catching a flight into the western wilderness to begin an eight-day hike. On checking in we were told we could not have the private room we had booked by telephone because we were unable to show photo ID. All we had with us was... More
