Quiet, Relaxed with alot of space. Rooms have a great lay out, bathrooms are very large and super clean, kitchen and common rooms again clean large and very spacious no complaints at all. Only down side is the global gossip internet...PLEASE YHA Break away from this, Its poisoning your market of backpackers and making them book other places.

I stayed here in May 2012 for 2 weeks I have travelled up the East coast and the YHA metro is my favourite hostel so far! The reception staff were helpful and friendly told me where all the facilities were, the nearest shopping store and post office, which trams to get and where best to get off for an Aussie... More

YHA Metro is a nice place to stay in Melbourne. Nice & clean, secure and friendly staff. Close to VIC market & CBD. Could be a bit cheaper due to numerous other good hostels in Melbourne.

I had an excellent stay. Friendly staff, happy travellers. Mixed age group here. Its not a party hostel but I did find it social. I think the price is standard for a city in Australia. It was a purpose built building as a hostel and functions very well. Pros: - Good lounge area and rooftop patio with beautiful sunset view... More

As with many things in Australia, this hostel was far too dear for what it was worth. I paid $32 for a night in an 8-bed (all-female) dorm room. There were constant comings and goings during the night with the result that I got little sleep. It was the worst hostel experience I've had in a good while. The location... More

The YHA is as the most YHA's very clean and safe. The staff at reception was very nice, also the night manager. Kitchen is a bit small, but it's okay. You can order breakfast. Prices are not very backpacker-friendly. The location of the YHA is perfect. It's a bit out of the city, but just 10 minute walk to the... More

This hostel lives up to the YHA standards, everything is simple but clean and tidy. The best thing about it is the location, it's just out of the city so it's not noisy and parking for a bus is not too difficult. I was travelling with a group and found the staff to be very accommodating of our needs. Meals... More

Good standard hostel, only 10 mins walk from central station or 2 minute walk from the nearest tram. Admittedly not in the hub of everything but a very social hostel with big kitchen/dining area and lovely roof terrace. 8 bed dorms are pokey - feel for the cleaning staff having to find the carpets to hoover. 4 beds are lovely... I have stayed at Melbourne Metro YHA more than once over the last few years. Cleanliness is always pretty good; the rooms especially (I have always had a private room, but friends I've stayed with have used dorm rooms and these seem clean too), and the beds, while very standard fare, are comfortable enough, again with clean linen, etc. Heating/cooling...
