This hostel has just everything you need. You could either explore the wonderful bay of Plimmerton or just hop on the train and go to Wellington. Best beds ever! Wonderful lounge with a stunning seaview and great atmosphere. Danny, the owner is so helpful and nice. Great kitchen with a big gas oven for perfect self-made pizza ;) And the... More

This lodge was one of the nicest hostels that i stayed in. Very tidy, clean and the atmosphere fantastic. Such a beautiful ocean view from the common room and the kitchen was really well organized and had all you can ask for (and more). The best hostel-beds that I have slept in, the duvet and pillow of great quality. The... More

Owner and staff were excellent - very friendly and helpful. Room, which had beach view, was lacking - small, no bed side lights and could not get wifi in room at all and nowhere to put clothes if staying for more than a couple of nights!! Shower and toilet facilities were ok and 3 of each. The lounge was very... More

Booked in for 1 night on way to crossing to South Island, very handy for ferries, if not wanting to stay in Wellington itself, accommodation itself is reasonable, on the sea front, no en suites, but sufficient toilets/showers available, Food outlets nearby are fairly limited, but facilities available within accommodation sufficient to make your own food, if required welcoming hosts and... Amazing location, very peaceful, clean, excellent customer service, comfortable, great kitchen/cooking facilities, across from beach, a short walk to some first class eating. Danny and his brother, Marcel, just bought this place 3 months ago (late 2012). When the lodge was first built in the 1930's (?? I think) it was a guest house, and has been ever since. Although... I had a two night stay booked. I was headed to Wellington city but lucked out and found this gem in Plimmerton. A little north, but with the train into town, the best option. Having never been to the French Riviera, I assume this is a smaller version. On the sea. 30 paces to the sand, A location that I... More

This place has a high rating based I think on its beautiful location however the accommodation itself is not really worth the travel if you don't have a car. Over New Year period there are no trains and buses are infrequent and take forever - be warned if you're traveling then. Taxi cost us $104 from Wellington airport. Had we... More

There is no denying that this is a nice location and building. It is clean, has a well equipped kitchen and fantastic views. However, there were a few things which slightly ruined my stay. At times I felt as though I was tiptoeing around someone's home rather than feeling at home in a hostel, mainly when the kitchen surfaces were... More

Brilliant hostel. Must be one of the best in NZ. Great location and all the facilities one could wish for. Fish and chips better than here in England. Great to chill on the beach across the road. Was really nice to take the train into Wellington to save the parking worry - train service excellent. Stayed here heading south and... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here; our room was comfortable with clean bathroom opposite. Although our room was not sea-facing, those that were had awesome views as the lodge is right on the front. The lounge areas have big windows ideal for watching the amazing sunsets and the kitchen is clean and well equipped. This is not your typical budget... More
