This former convent was replaced part by part from another side of the south island. It is a lovely and comfortable place. It feels like staying in a small English landhouse and the lounge with open fire and wireless internet is really cosy. Tea, coffee, home made pies are ready for the guests in the afternoon when they return from... More

Truly beautiful and unique rooms in this unusual B&B which used to be a convent. It has been lovingly restored and rebuilt at its present location. Meticulously maintained and cared for by George, who made us feel so welcome and at home. He was a wealth of information about the area, but even more importantly, he plays a mean guitar... More

This really is a B&B with a difference. We stayed here for two nights. The host George couldnt have been more helpful and informative. There was free wine and beer included and a wonderful breakfast each morning. If I get the opportunity to return to the South island then I will definately stay there again

We stayed here for two nights whilst our friends stayed round the corner in another B&B. We were very warmly greeted by Gerorge who showed us round his comfortable and quaint house - a convent that was cut into sections, moved and rebuilt on site. Our room was Very comfortable and nicely furnished. There was tea, coffee, wine, beer and... More

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Te Anau Lodge. Rooms were extremely comfortable, with all the amenities we required. The host was wonderful. Very helpful and obliging without crowding us. Can't wait for my next visit.

A cool experience to stay in a converted convent. The rooms were spare, but comfortable. The bathroom was a nice size and the shower had great water pressure. There's a washer dryer available to guests--a nice treat to be able to do laundry! Tea and muffins in the cozy library, chatting with other visitors (while using the free wifi--hard to... More

The best B&B, I have ever been. The owner George makes you feel at home. Beautiful place, it was built in 1936 as a convent. George bought it and rebuilt it. Carefully restored and with modern facilities, interior with oak paneling and polished timber floors. Free wifi internet. Free wine and beer, tea and muffins. Charming place to be. Its... More

To be in this hotel was really a succes. It was an excellent election and we were lucky to have the opportunity to be at George's house. The building is very peculiar and the rooms and common areas of the hotel very nice as well but the best was, by far, George and his particular way to make you feel... More

We stayed at the Te Anau Lodge for two nights in November, 2011, drawn primarily by its history as a convent. The true charm of this place, however, is the host, George. The rooms are small, but comfortable; the hospitality is large and warm. A guest lounge, complete with wine, coffee, tea, and muffins, provided a wonderful place for us... More
