I was very disappointed with this hotel. The faceade is beautiful but the hallways are dowdy and dull. The room was nothing I haven't had in a 3 star hotel. It was very clean and the bathroom was a good size. You have to pay to park which is not good, even though it was only $6 a day it... More

Very dissapointing stay. Charge for car parking on land they own. Lift noise was loud enough to annoy, no control on heating, curtains pulled off tracks and they charge $6.50 for a bottle of water! It may have been a grand hotel once, but it's not anymore and prices should reflect this. The bar didn't open on Sundays, and the... More

Stayed for a night late May at this hotel in Launceston. From the outside the hotel looks great, but unfortunately, doesn't live up to that expectation when you're inside. The lobby is quite cold and the reception is pretty efficient. I had a room facing the main street and both bed and shower were good, but it took a while... More

Fine room and hotel but felt ripped off as soon as we arrived. They took $200 off credit card, charged for parking (launceston not middle of Melbourne) and ripped us off big time for B'fest. You wonder what the problem with tourism in Tasmania is? It's the fact you get raped. No way will we be back.

Stayed here for three nights with my mother as a post-Mother's Day holiday. We stayed in one of the unrenovated twin rooms. I thought this place was great - clean bathroom, comfortable bed, and all the amenities you would expect. Room was clean and we had no problems with noise or temperature - it was quite cold when we were... More

Stayed here for a night in May 2012. The Grand Chancellor's entrance is quite "Grand" but the rooms are a bit dated. There's nothing wrong, the room is neat and tidy, spotlessly clean. The hotel is just quite old and dated. Perhaps it's time for a major renovation. The restaurant served reasonable meals. Salt pepper squid and the steak are... More

We really like the Grand Chancellor, the location is fabulous the gorgeous City Park is only at the end of the street, maybe 100 metres and it is gorgeous, the hotel we got was in the not undated section however we got a very good deal and cannot complain. The rooms are a reasonable size and the bathrooms a good... More

Not sure why it gets 4.5 stars. But it was clean - very 80's and had a bath! I believe they have another area with newer fitouts. The windows open which was great. The food was really lovely. We had dinner and lunch. Try the BLAT in bed ;-) if you're not up before the breakfast cut off at 1030... More

We booked into the Hotel Grand Chancellor for dinner in their restaurant and ended up walking out. We were kept waiting without anyone acknowledging our presence before being ushered to our table which was dark and dingy. When we asked to be moved to another table, the waitress mentioned how dark the previous table was and how they had been... More

The Grand Chancellor is an ordinary hotel that once upon a time might have been a great 4.5 hotel... however that's definitely not the case anymore. I stayed at the GCH twice in the past weeks, the first time 2 nights (31 March - 2 April 2012) & 5 nights (15 - 20 April 2012) The first stay was in... More
