Walk through the lovely front doors turn left into the bistro/cafe bar or down stairs to the cocktail bar but best choice is to follow the beautiful old timber staircase past old stained glass windows to the restaurant. The Shamrock Hotel in Bendigo rests very much on its historical laurels. It had a renovation some years back. However, the rooms are still small and without double glazing so the rooms can be noisy. We came here as a party of five to attend the Grace Kelly exhibition. The hotel is a grand Victorian style on the exterior with a wide lacework iron verandah, high ceilings, tessellated tiles on the entrance and grand ceilings throughout. Apart from the setting and view from the verandah where they serve the hight tea there was nothing to recommend this experience. Old world rooms but with all modern comforts. Very clean. Excellent food in both dining areas with great prices. Thank you all but one suggestion receptionists should smile. We will be back.

Had a great stay here recently. Nicely appointed rooms, delicious food and friendly staff within a building of great character right in the heart of elegant Bendigo.
