Stayed here for four nights during our stay in Melbourne, picked this location for proximity to friends living in the area. We had arranged an early check-in from 12pm, we got to the hotel earlier than expected and they kindly let us have the room from 9am, which following a 24 hour flight we were grateful for. We had booked... More

Had a stay booked here, checked out after one night. Basically noisy, old feeling, pay for wifi, no on site parking (you need to park 5 mins walk away). Unfriendly staff (had to carry baggage up stairs myself - no lift!). Positives? The restaurant and paintings...not quite enough!

This is a great hotel if you like your character of buildings.Has a great feel about it and windows you can open. just a tip though if you need your sleep and like it quiet ask for a room at the back as the main road out front doesnt sleep...at all. But..if you are a people watcher and like the... More

I agree with everything the review below says :) I was a little concerned after reading some of the others, but had a great experience. The lady at reception offered to carry my bags, the room was clean and the bathroom modern. They were, unfortunately, doing renovations to the resturant kitchen at the time - this meant 2 things.. 1.... More

This hotel is different and not for everyone. No lift, so if you have a lot of luggage or find stairs difficult give it a miss. But if you like an experience and great food rather than a sterile hotel you will love this place. The room is small but has everything you need - mini bar fridge and micro... More

I've stayed at the Tolarno many times over many years. I simply enjoy the casual elegance of the place. Its History: George Mora bought the hotel as a restaurant, art gallery, studio and home in 1966. His wife Mirka's (one of Victoria's best-known and loved artists), & others eclectic works adorn the walls complimenting the colourful range of accommodation...The excellent... More

A Melbourne native, stayed here due to a wedding and not wanting to deal with cabs, etc. room was tiny, right next to stairs, uncomfortable bed-and $160?! Had 3 various bags when checked in, guy let me in and didn't offer to assist with one? Better places to spend your dollars locally.

A cute place, clean but a little dated. Unfortunately it doesn't have a lift so if you are on the 3rd floor it is a bit of a hike, especially with your luggage. If you can cope with the stairs be sure to request a room at the back of the hotel if you want peace and quiet. The front... More

Stayed here for one night in November. Paid for just a standard room. We asked for a quiet room, not sure if we got it or not but it was in the back of the hotel behind registration. The room was VERY small, and the bathroom was pretty bad. no room to place anything, the shower was old and left... More

Stayed 2 nights. Found the location perfect, easy to get into the city or to walk to St Kilda attractions and restaurants. Upstairs room near the front, no view, room was on the small side but quite comfortable. No issues with noise. Bathroom was somewhat dated and I drew management attention to a plumbing issue. Could use a bench in... More
