I stayed 2 nights in a twin share room. The service was very good, owner friendly. Kitchen facilities were clean and spacious. It is located a little way from the main shops for people who don't have cars. The shower is very good lots of hot water except shared one person at a time.

YHA room pretty basic, however as this was only an overnight stop, the hotel met our expectations. Shower was very good (although shared). Owner was friendly. I thought it a bit expensive for what you got.

I used YHA of dormitory room just 1night. But, it's really clean there. Kitchen, bathroom, room are cleanliness. This time travel to NZ is third time for me, but almost backpacker's kitchen was so dirty. I recommed to stay here, who likes clean and comfy.

We booked this hostel which is also a B&B/guesthouse through the YHA website and it said reception was open until 10pm. We arrived at this hostel at 9:10pm and there were very few lights. We wandered around a little while before calling the number on our booking at 9:18pm after knocking a few times. The owner answered and was a... More

These people arrived late (just before 10pm) on a weeknight and they said they came from Rotorua which is only 3-1/2 hours away and when they arrived I asked them to be very quiet because people were asleep and we had a large tour party in, who had all retired at 9.30pm because they wanted to get away early for... Stayed at the hostel facilities behind the B&B. Our room was really sweet, and because it was off peak season, we were the only ones there for most of the time. If it ever gets busy though, I'm sure the whole one-bathroom thing could be quite annoying. The kitchen and lounge facilities were really homey, and the staff at the... More

A beautiful building both inside and out, the detail to the furnishing was a delight to see, comfy beds, great showers, incredibly clean, amazing breakfast and a wonderful homely feel that so many places miss. The gardens of the house were filled with lovely features and were a perfect place to relax after a day exploring the surrounds. Everyone at... More

We had a small room with a shared balcony on the ground floor. Noise is therefore dependent on the consideration of the neighbours. No en-suite rooms so bathroom availability is about good timing and speed of reactions. The pre 1800 house has backpacker accommodation at the rear and whilst seperate from the house some noise crossover does occur. A basic... More

Travelled to Wanganui for a break after a hectic business trip to Wellington and thoroughly enjoyed the charm of Braemar House Bed and Breakfast. Our host Clive should be justifiably proud - cleanliness, decor, gardens, country breakfast, tea and coffee on tap, linen , towels etc all first class and felt very comfy and homely. We enjoyed our chats on... More

This was our first YHA hostel and we were not disappointed. The hostel is located right at the beginning of the road so go slowly or else you might miss it (signs are just a bit small). The main house is a charming B&B and some dorm rooms; doubles / twin rooms are located behind the house in a separate... More
