Stayed at the Kingsgate over Waitangi weekend when the 20/20 cricket International happened to be on and the players from both teams were staying at the hotel. I would say this is probably the fullest the hotel has been for quite some time as it is quite dated now. Rooms quite small but functional, decor is dated and old fashioned.... More

This is an okay hotel, its never going to win any awards for being modern but it is spotlessly clean and the staff are very helpful. plenty of parking is avilable and the location is just perfect, just a 500 yard stroll to downtown and right beside the marina

My husband and I spent one night in Whangarei and chose to stay here. When he said he had booked a suite at the Kingsgate I was excited. However this turned to disappointment as soon as we stepped into the hotel. The man at the front desk was very nearly rude in the way he spoke to us. The entry... More

Spent one night here on way from Bay of Islands to Auckland. Superior room overlooking town basin. Room large and close to where we parked the car. It had a large window but the main problem was the main road outside the window made it like being in a goldfish bowl! Everyone passing could see in. It was a very... More

This place was easy to find from the airport. It was next to a nice marinas and a short walk to nice restaurants. It was nothing flash, but functional. The addition of some direction signs to room would help.

As soon as you walk in you see the place is run-down, cheap crocked signs and very dated decor. Rooms match the rest of the place, i.e. drab. Some rooms have quite a hike to get to them, also you have the joy of seeing some sweaty gust in the glass wall gym every time you walk to it. I... More

We stayed in this hotel after surveying the rather meagre offerings that Whangarei has to offer. It may have been a good place once but it is well past its best. We took the best room - advertised as overlooking the marina. it does overlook the marina but in between the hotel and the marina is the main road where... More

I had the pleasure of staying at the KIngsgate whilst in Whangarei for a conference. I found the staff to be most helpful, very friendly and welcoming. I asked a man at reception if he could book us a bus to Paihia as we had a free day before retuning home and I found him to be very helpful and... More

For the first time in six years my wife and I weren't hosting a family Christmas. So we booked a room at a hotel in town so we could stay overnight and take a taxi to and from the Christmas day festivities at another family member's home. We made our reservations well in advance and had stayed there before. So... More

I accompanied my daughter on a business trip and we stayed one night at Kingsgate in Whangarei. When we arrived there was a feed back form on one of the beds so I picked it up and was unhappy to note that it was badly stained with either dry tea or coffee. Who leaves a dirty feedback form? Then when... More
