Greymouth to be fair is kinda boring but a great place for a stopover. However, this hostel is absolutely brilliant. Not only are the rooms individually decorated with beautifully crafted wooden structures and ornaments but the staff are very friendly an it is excellent value for money. A must stay.

Nice backpackers, tidy and well maintained, bikes should get more attention but otherwise it was best start in NZ.

This is the kind of hostel you dream of. The decor is amazing. The owners took real care when creating this place. There is stuff all around from every country you can think of. It has so much character. I stayed in a six bed dorm, which was down the stairs. It was a bit loud with people walking in... More

Worried it might be a typical backpackers place with loads of annoying backpackers but pleasantly surprised that there was a real mix of punters staying here. Massive communal living areas from downstair lounge with sofas and books to upstairs dining area and big kitchen. Lots of toilets and showers. They were so popular and busy we had to opt for... More

I loved this hostel. They put so much care and attention into the details and it has a lovely garden by the river. The owners are really friendly and helpful and the place is very clean and well maintained. Loved the cat too. Thanks for a nice and relaxing stay.

Global Village was one of the nicest hostels we stayed in on our two week trip to the South Island. The beds were comfortable and above each bed there was a light, a shelf and an outlet, which made reading in bed and charging electronics easy. The Kitchen was clean and spacious with free tea, coffee and spices. There was... More

This was our first NZ hostel and it set the standard for how we judged the next ten places we stayed in. Remarkably well run. Everyone was so respectful of each other in all the common rooms. Complete kitchen with everything you needed. There was a person there to answer questions and assist most times of the day or within... More

By far, best backpacker's hostel of our stay in New Zealand. It's well decorated in an international, mainly African, theme, bright and cheerful. The rooms and the kitchen are stocked with many conveniences. The common room is comfortable. The host is great. And best of all, free use of kayaks and bikes. There is a bird reserve just a 10... The Global village backpacker made a really impressive impression about the atmosphere and the facilities it offers. The staff is welcoming as its best! We stayed one night in our van first but it was so enjoyable to stay here that we booked for another night in a double room. Finally, they thought of everything to make your staying so... More
