Difficult to know where to start to be honest. The rooms are very average and share none of the ambience of the attached pub. The Guinness and the open fire are the highlights of the pub but unfortunately the food was nothing short of awful (and over-priced). When ordering grilled blue cod in a Kaikoura restaurant you would expect it...

We have just stayed at Donegal House for a speedway function and I was less than impressed with the accomodation - especially for the price!!! There are 3 different levels of rooms, yet all have the same price....we had the VERY basic room with a bed and ensuite that faced the car park... friends had a similar room but it...

Hotel is some away from the small settlement of Kaikoura. The rooms face a lovely garden and we could sit on the veranda admiring the views. The rooms were fine but the ensuite basic. I ordered steak for dinner and was very disappointed with it although others had a better experience. Breakfast was cooked as and when people came to...

We were grateful they could put us up even though the room was only big enough to just fit the bed and the state of the carpet caused me to keep my shoes on. We felt it was better than no...

On the first night of our holiday in the south island with friends from the U.K. we arrived in Kaikoura looking for accommodation. We settled on Donegal House when the lady from the information centre said she had eaten there and the food was good. We eventually found the place 4 kilometers from the centre on Kaikoura. The rooms were...

Me and my girlfriend had a meal here back in October, everything was perfect from the food to the setting, the log fire and the really nice lady behind the bar. A hidden gem!
My husband & I chose Donegal house for our wedding venue. The amazing gardens and onsite accommodation were big things for us. It is a little way out of kaikoura but that made it so much better for what we wanted.
The rooms were nice and quite spacious the only thing they need is a wee fridge otherwise no complaints....

Stayed two nights while on a work trip through Kaikoura. Six of us had an evening meal and it was great. Everyone enjoyed the food, lovely big meals. One of the group was vegan/dairy free and was catered too. The owner Murray joined us for a few drinks and we enjoyed the atmosphere. The grounds were beautiful and the rooms...
