Having read the reviews from 2008 I can tell you nothing has changed! We had the same problems. We stayed there at Christmas which made it worse. The food was an amalgamation of all the cheapest food you can buy from a supermarket (pasta, bread, rice, luncheon roll) and cold chicken wings every night and Christmas dinner. The captain was... cockroaches cralling out of the shower (not just a few, but heaps of them), wet beds and sheets, one single light bulb that was actually working, police crackdown at the neighbour dorm, all this made our staya nightmare! (the last and cheapest place when we got to airlie at night) Why is the company so careless with this spot! Get... More

My partner and I returned from our Whitsundays trip, sun burnt and absolutely soaked after a long walk in torrential rain from the harbour. Having pre-booked Koalas, we arrived at the reception with all our luggage in tow at about 12 noon. We immediately noticed the whole hostel was like a ghost town and the staff had no work to... More

Stayed in November 2009 actually. The place is a dump. I can't even believe they offer services. It is a joke. I was told I was staying during the busiest time of the year; an end of the school year party time for AUS kids. Yet, there were no extended hours of operation in the office and no extra staffing... The rooms have bed bugs & dirty bathrooms. The staff were not so helpful when it came to tours, the boat I went on there was just as bad.

I'll make this review short and to the point. This Hostel is DIRTY. I wouldnt stay here if your planning your trip to Airlie Beach. ( I would try Beaches. its quite clean) The whole city is known to have an infestation of bedbugs, but i can say that i got them from staying at this hostel. I went to... More

This place is just not even worth it. yeah it comes across as cheap, but definitely not cheerful. The $15 a night got us in there, but once there, you pay a deposit for EVERYTHING, knife fork spoon pan plates. Thats if your lucky to get one. theyve usually ran out, so when we asked them what we were supposed... More

Undoubtedly the worst hostel I stayed in in Aus. Kitchen fridge hadn't been cleaned in months and there was rotting food lying all over it. The fan in the kitchen was hanging off the ceiling at head height...and still spinning! They had 2 cooking pots between all of the guests in the hostel, our room smelt of urine, the bathroom... More

I recently had to take a last minute detour to Airlie for my January holidays. I rang a travel agent in the area, as I was looking for a boat/dive trip and a reasonable place to stay in town for 1 night. The local travel agent recommended Koalas private rooms given it was across the road from their offices. I... More

Well, first of all I have to say, if you just sleep there, the place is actually fine: Relatively cheap, close to the city, rooms mostly ok and clean. But now comes my story: After I'm back from my last week's whitsundys trip, I have now diagnosed that I (and my girlfriend) have been attacked by bed bugs! This is... More
