We had a wonderful time at this beautiful cottage. You feel like in the early 20st century - but with all the modern comfort of today. So much attention to detail, beautiful surroundings, close to wineries and town - plus gorgeous homemade bread and jams!

My partner booked this cottage as a weekend away surprise for my birthday. It was the most relaxing place I have been in a very long time, I did not want to leave. Our hosts were very friendly delivering freshly baked bread and just laid eggs for breakfast. The cottage itself was spacious yet cosy and very romantic. The attention... More

Thanks for the generous review. We won't forget you two sitting in the car, lost at the top of the hill and you asking him "where have you brought me?" More

My Husband and I stayed at the Blackmans Cottage for a week during the Xmas season of 2012. From the time we stepped into our cottage up and until we checked out, it has been a wonderful and comfortable experience. The cottage itself is a 2 bedroom and 1 bath, with a pot-bellied heater and a small kitchenette, a barbeque outside and... We stayed at the Calving Gully Cottage. It was quiet, secluded, and extremely cosy. It had one bed, yet was very spacious and the wood-fired heater was great to have. The outstanding part of the cottage was the attention to detail -- the wood for the fire was all at hand; tea/coffee/milk/cereals were provided for breakfast; the fridge/cupboards were stocked... Thanks for the great review. It's good to know what guests respond to. Sadly you didn't get to meet the 'roos. Josie, the hand reared matriarch passed away of old age (17) a few weeks ago. We now wait to see whether the rest of the mob will return without her presence. More

We stayed in Maggie's cottage which was perfect for our group of 4 adults and 3 kids. The 2 bedrooms upstairs both had ensuites and there was another bedroom and bathroom downstairs for the kids. Beds were very comfortable. The outlook from the cottage is lovely and a kangaroo visited in the afternoon. Chris the owner had thought of everything... More

Thanks for the great review. Two clarifications for future guests: The eggs are courtesy of our own chooks and if they're not on their game there are none to pass on. We don't see any point providing supermarket eggs. The critters ('roos etc) are wild and it's their choice to visit you. More

We recently spent two delightful nights in "Calving Gully Cottage". It's a one bedder and very spacious for that. Everything you need and a roaring fire to boot with wood provided. The cottages are well separated so it's very quiet. There are kangaroos on the property and beautiful parrots who visit. The cottage is very new, but made from old... More

We stayed in Maggie's cottage January 2012. It was lovely. 1 large bedroom and bathroom downstairs and another two bedrooms upstairs with shower and toilet in each. The very large lounge was comfortable to sit in while we played monopoly (supplied). Outside the cottage is very rustic, but nice. We had resident kangaroos that came to visit every day. A... More

We stayed in the Bushmans Cottage for a weekend with friends and could not find one fault with the cottage. Nestled in the bush, 10 minutes drive from Mudgee centre, the cottages are situated on a large acreage that is very peaceful. The owners live up the hill, out of sight, and were very obliging to supply us with anything... More

Thanks for the great review. Minor technical issue, it is Blackman's Cottage you stayed at. Bushmans is on another property. Thanks again More

A delightful 10 minute drive through the vineyards north of Mudgee takes you to a hidden hideaway, a 'retreat' in the original sense. While you still see Mudgee and the Valley, you also experience the birds, critters and solitude of the bush.Three fully self-contained cottages provide complete privacy, out of sight and sound of one another, in their own bush settings. There are several of Mudgees best eating options nearby, vine-lined lanes to ramble or cycle (using ours or yours), and verandahs from which to immerse yourselves in the sunsets over the Valley. And of course wineries. The major wineries are all between Mudgee and Ilkley. You can call in on the way home and say "What have you got to go with this magnificent Mudgee scotch fillet on the BBQ tonight?" ... more   less
