We loved out stay here! Everything was taken care of for us from food to kayaks so that we could focus on our dives and generally explore the relaxing and beautiful island. The rooms were perfectly comfortable and a great way to escape the sun for a bit. Our view was unbeatable: the perfect place to view the sunrise. Mel made our stay exceptional, as did did the whole crew on the boat and the staff on the island. All of our meals were delicious and we enjoyed a relaxing beer most nights as we watched the sunset on the other side of the mangrove boardwalk. If I can ever return to Belize I will be coming back to Hugh Parkey's.

We booked a snorkeling excursion through Carnival. They picked us up from the ship. Everyone was extremely nice. They divided us into small groups for snorkeling. The guides were very knowledgeable and considerate. The water was a tad rough, but everyone was intent on keeping all the snorkelers safe. The water was absolutely beautiful!!! They took us to a small beach after of snorkeling adventure. You are able to purchase food, and it was delicious. I definitely would recommend this excursion.

It was awesome !! I'm a caye kind of traveler. This was a special place . Low key , beautiful scenery . Great food at the restaurant. My son and I went kayaking. Swimming and snorkeling . Played on the beach . I really enjoyed it . Being on a caye is different than most people realize. It is very quaint and has its own charm. If you don't like small caye living you won't like the cause of the Bahamas either. That fine . Less people the better for me. Not everyone should have the luxury of time at a private island .

Booked this off a carnival cruise. They take you to an island off Turneffe atoll and on the reef. Diving was great. The boats are really big and very nice. Even enjoyed a belkin beer. Very cool being picked up from the ship. Would do again.

Booked this dive through Navigator of the Seas, so it started off pricey, but I expect that from a cruise shore excursion. I went with my daughter and we both had a good time. We dove Black Pearl and Pine Ridge. The harshest things I have to say... Equipment is basic so don't expect a dive computer here, which sucked for me as I forgot my watch at home and my kid's broke on the cruise. So logging the dive was iffy. Wetsuits are an additional $10 and seem to run small. Water there was 86F so I didn't feel the need, but my girl did. Snacks were chips and salsa and some water melon. Water and fruit punch to drink. I should have packed a lunch. The good... Belize is a Tender port so instead of taking a tender to Belize City then going to the dive spots, the dive boat picked us up at the Cruise ship and took us to the Caye to grab our equipment. This saved us over an hour since the anchorage was halfway between Belize City and Spanish Look-out Caye. I loved the dives. The crew was great. My equipment while basic worked as designed and seemed to be in good repair. With 100+ ft of visibility I saw an amazing amount of marine life from dozens of different coral, Barracuda, Green Moray and a huge Eagle Ray, lobster and crab. Pretty much every little coral fish I've seen in an aquarium and would expect to see in the Caribbean as well as several other large fish I am unsure of what they were. I would definitely book with these guys again.

I have been diving twice with Hugh Parkey's during Carnival cruises. They run the dive operations that you purchase through Carnival's shore excursions in Belize. The cruise ship will anchor well outside of Belize city and diving through the ship's excursions is really the only way to go diving during a port visit on a cruise ship to Belize. The dive boat picks you up directly from the cruise ship and will take you to their private island. You will be fitted with gear (mine was always in good condition and they have a large selection of sizes to fit men and women). Then it is back on the dive boat for a 20-30 minute ride out to the barrier reef. The divers are divided into groups of 6 or so each with a dive master. The crew helps you get your gear on and into the water (and back out too). The diving in Belize is top-notch and although the most expensive dive excursion I've done from a cruise ship I was 100% satisfied both times. On the first time with Hugh Parkey I was diving with my brand new underwater camera (second day diving with it having used it the first time the day before in Roatan). I did a giant stride into the water and my regulator started to free-flow and nothing I did would stop it. My dive master swam over to me and he couldn't get it stopped either. I then realized that my camera was no longer on my wrist! The crew helped me back onto the dive boat and switched out the regulator and the tank and before I was even heading back into the water on of the divers in my group had watched my camera descend from the surface and had retrieved it and the dive master had it waiting for me as I rejoined the group. During the dive we saw turtles, sting rays and even spotted eagle rays. My dive master dove with a slate and would identify things and he was very good and making sure that everyone had the opportunity to see what he was identifying. During the surface interval between dives we were offered plenty of fresh fruit, homemade salsa and chips, and water. Once back to the island from the two dives we were offered a rum punch, access to fresh water showers, and some time to relax before the dive boat took us back to the cruise ship. I highly enjoyed myself, felt safe and well watched after. I also appreciated the dive master helping me get some photos of myself underwater.

We have stayed here twice with our mission group for a debriefing before we departed to the U.S. As I understand they accommodate groups and of course the cruise ship guests. The cottages over the water are so peaceful and the environment so lovely even when they are accomodating the cruise ship crowds. There is the main complex and I use that term loosely and you can walk across the island to another beach, and perhaps an estuary where there are other guests sunbathing, kayaking etc. The food is fresh and the staff warm and welcoming. If you wish to have a private island for a night or two this may be the place. From the dock you can see moray eels, octopus and many other fish. If you are a bird watcher they have a few for your enjoyment. In my experience it is a great place to relax and enjoy !

I cant seem to find where I can post something regarding the restaurant at the Adventure Lodge on Spanish Lookout Cay - so hopefully this suffice but I needed to post someplace, since it is post worthy! We had our own catamaran charter and stopped at Spanish Lookout Cay over Easter unfortunately they were closed due to the holiday but did sell us some much needed ice. Fortunately we had the opportunity to stop on our way back and are sure glad we did. We called ahead to make sure they could accommodate the two of us for dinner and they welcomed our company, which was delightful since we were the only two people with the exception of Mel who was our bartender, wait staff, bus boy and cashier. We started with a few Rum Punches which Mel made and were refreshing. We had a choice of chicken, fish or shrimp for dinner - we went with a fish and a shrimp, which Mel later just split for us since we had planned to share them anyway. A fresh salad with lots of fresh veggies started dinner followed by the best meal we had in our 13 days in Belize. The shrimp (though a bit small) were spicy and tasty and perfectly prepared and the fish was amazing, it had been roasted and topped with a fresh salsa. Also included were fresh veggies and potatoes both were also perfectly cooked. It was A LOT of food and a delicious meal. Chocolate cake came with the meal, which we couldn't possibly eat at this point, Mel insisted we take it to go (and yes it was good). Mel joined us after dinner and we enjoyed his company sharing stories of past travels. We were both pleasantly surprised by the delightful dinner and Mel's pleasant hospitality. If you are any place near Spanish Lookout Cay make the effort, call ahead for dinner and tell Mel Lisa and Kevin sent you. And Enjoy!

I am moving the following review (written Dec. 2014) from the San Pedro location at the owner's request: We booked through the Norwegian Jewel to use credit provided by our travel agent and to take advantage of a direct pick up from the ship which anchors far away from the main port. This is a pricey dive (we took a substantially cheaper--$40pp less--independent dive in Roatán with Coconut Tree Divers) and we were annoyed that the "with equipment" option at HP did not include wetsuits which were yet another $10 each for my husband's and other divers' shorties. My husband's wetsuit was also very tight across his shoulders, (He's 6'3, slim but muscular.) and a not-large woman diver was surprised to find she needed a large. Be advised that truly large people may have difficulty getting a wetsuit via HP. We only had credit cards with us (no cash) and the machine in the dive shop did not work. We were told this was "due to the clouds." However, we were able to charge the amount in the restaurant next door which apparently has the same owner (and different clouds??). The water was 78F and it did get chilly, especially between dives. The divemaster Pablo (who had a long wetsuit) was good at pointing out marine life below, but tended to the condescending side while above water (mistakenly criticizing the thickness of my personal wetsuit, responding sharply to simple questions from various divers about preferred procedure, etc.). His attitude unfortunately detracted from the natural beauty of the dive, and has left me with a lingering negative impression despite the positives of the dives. In addition to healthy coral and plentiful smaller tropical fish, we saw a couple green morays, a spotted eel, sting ray, way too many lionfish (and no spears on our boat so no culling), lobster, a barracuda, and a seahorse which excited Pablo to a surprising degree. The boat itself was in good condition as was the equipment. We were surprised to have very little time at the tiny cluster of buildings where the dive shop sits (on a mostly-scrub-brush barrier island barely above water), assuming they'd expect us to buy lunch. It wasn't a big loss and we had "free" food back aboard the ship, so I'm not sure I'm unhappy about this; just surprised. Nice restrooms are available for changing into dry clothes. They did offer "free" rum punch, but it was so watery that we only took a few sips and left it; definitely nothing to get excited about there.

Perhaps our expectations were too high based on our spectacular dive about 6 years ago with this same dive shop. Hugh Parkey's is very good, safety conscious operation and very convenient to use from a cruise ship as you actually board the dive boat right from the cruise ship. With that being said, we ( a family of 5) kind of had that feeling of being treated as "day tourists".....you know....just take them to a reef, let them dive, and take them back to the ship. I temper the review with the fact that visibility wasn't great and we all know how viz makes it or breaks it. Overall the operation is very reputable and worth a try.
